BBK Mods - quick question

Can someone explain to me why it is that these Big Brake Kits are so darn expensive? What's the difference between getting the whole kit, for a couple thousand, versus piecing the kit together? For example, ebay has a set of front and rear rotors, pads and calipers for a decent price. Calipers are priced at around 90, while the front and rear rotors are priced around 250. ??? Thanks

I don't think those are BBK Calipers. Not for $90. Legend rebuilds maybe, but those are for a 2G brake upgrade and are not a BBK.

I did see a set of StopTech Fronts for ~$1900 and some "no name" front BBK for ~$900.

You got a link? Might help to figure out what makes, say, StopTech cost ~$1900 and what you're seeing cost so little.

When it comes to brakes you can't go with cheap stuff. They are just to important for your car to work right. I agree with bear, for $90, I think your better leaving it the way it is. Your gonna spend at least around $1k for a BBK and sometimes more, but I don't think you should go cheap for this type of mod.

DONT BUY EBAY ROTORS.....WORD TO THE WISE. GOT SOME ON MY LEXUS RIGHT NOW AND THEY SUCK. Many of the popular ebay vendors that sell drilled or drilled and slotted rotors that they mfg do a VERY shitty job mfging the parts. Mine literally warped in two drives and suck worse than they were before I ever put them on.

Rotora, Brembo, RacingBrake, ect are all safe....its the ones like BrakeMotive, Muhsyn, Brake Masters, R1 Concepts, ect. The lesser known brands....most all those suck badly and you are gambling on if they will warp immediately or not due to the inferior cheap methods and metals they use in the base product. Word to the wise...dont fall for it. Go with a reputable vendor like the vendors here on AZ....they wont sell you crap like that as they wont stake their reputation on parts of that calibur.

I just realized that these were "regular" calipers...but even so, are the calipers for BBK's THAT expensive?

DUDE>>>THESE ARE NOT CALIPERS....THEY ARE CHEEZY PLASTIC COVERS TO MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE BREMBOS AND NOTHING MORE. If you are going that route...why not toss in a turbonator at the same time?

lol thats funny! First time I see those.

Your brakes will still be your stock ones, this will add no performance or anything to the car, they're purely aesthetic.

I def. agree with Mike, your safety and everything is more important but this mod won't do anything except waist your money for no reason.

Safety always comes in mind when you are planning on upgrading to BBK or brake pads or rotors. You can't settle anything for less if you are endangering your lives. Safety is always a priority.

well you'll need
larger rotors
calipers + pads
custom bracket
and bolts, washers, and other crap....

you only need to get that custom bracket done, make sure you pick the caliper with the correct mounting for your car.
