I am not sure how many other people have had their spoilers painted but here is the situation I ran into.
I was suppose to pick up my spoiler a couple of days ago but the guy who painted it didnt like how the base coat came out, being fiber glass it showed some waviness towards the top, so he suggested that we strip down the old primer etc and sand and paint it from scratch. After laying down the base today and turning on the heat to cure it he noticed a crack towards the corner of the spoiler. After discussing this with me he said that the only cause he can see is the air within the spoiler expanding due to the heat and causing that crack.
Long story short, he is going to strip the corner, fix the fiberglass and then repaint the whole spoiler, to give the air within the spoiler room to expand we decided to drill a tiny hole on the under side of the spoiler, hopefully this will resolve this issue.
Now I have to wait till Monday yet again

Sorry about your experience man that sucks.. Thank you for giving the rest of us the heads up I will put in a pilot hole on the underside near the 3rd brake light just to be safe...

^^ Yup, that is exactly where the hole will be, it makes sense though the spoiler is hollow and air expands when heated so I think the hole should be incorporated in the spoiler, Mike?

Also, Mike any chance to know when the dealers will be able to get their hands on these?

Just got mine back from my buddies shop. He said they had to do A LOT of prep work to it before painting. Not just a in-and-out the door job. It was very wavy, and had a lot of tiny pin holes...plus a crack along one edge.
Mike is a very nice guy and has some good products, but guys who are purchasing their wings pre-painted...just be careful! It's not like your getting a pre-painted A-Spec kit from Acura. IMO, I'm glad I had mine painted myself, and had hands on control of the job being done.

Thanks for the honest responses guys. I have gotten several products from Mike and most likely will continue to. Hopefully there aren't any "serious" issues with this product. Going to have to talk to a buddy's friend that does paint/body work to make sure this piece gets the attention it needs to be prepped/painted properly. Mike did say via email that this would need to be properly prepped and that you couldn't just spray it as is.
Also, thanks again to JnC for the tip on drilling a hole in it to allow for the expansion/contraction.

As specified in most of the e-mails, I mistakenly figured the manufacturer meant that it was primed and ready for paint, but their primer isn't paint ready and rather just for shipping purposes.
So yes, please make sure for a correct finish, when asking the paint shop (do not take it to a collision repair shop, they don't know how to handle custom products!) to make sure they at the very minimum, block sand it, hi-fill primer it, sand again, primer again, then paint and clear-coat, and then buff it.

My painter drilled 2 tiny holes...one on each end of the under-side. And, that was to hang it to be painted...and I leave these holes and place 3m tape around them, to allow for expansion/contraction.

Mine had that issue as well so he painted one side at a time and then cleared one at a time as well.
Finally picked it up yesterday and I must say even though I had to wait almost two weeks for mine but the thing came out beautiful. I test fitted it yesterday and it still has some of that lifting up from one side issue , I'll try to fix it gently today before installing it.

I have put my trust in Mike as he persuaded me to use just the tape and not the weld, so as we speak my garage queen of a TL is sitting in the garage with the spoiler installed with just the tape mike provided. I will give it a couple of days before driving the car.

Still waiting on mine. But, I've been so busy with other stuff it's not a big deal. Need to email Mike for the tracking number (he always forgets to send me that!).
Anyway, thanks for the info JnC and others. Good to know these things before getting this prepped, painted and installed. JnC, what's you impression of the tape Mike is providing with the spoilers? I was leaning towards the weld like you but I'm wondering if that's overkill compared to just using the tape. Of course, this is assuming it's good tape which I figure it is if Mike is including it.

I got one of the early wings & had some nice weather in NYC to put it on...
First...I spoke to a few auto parts suppliers...everyone recommends 3M tape, and 3M ONLY! That is the best and most adhesive tape. Welds or glues are not necessary and too permanent. I also used a product on the bottom of the wing to prepare the surface before applying the 3M....it's from a body shop and brushed on. It pretty much wore away the clear coat and created a better contact for the tape. You could just use a fine grit sandpaper and rubbing alcohol. This baby isn't going anywhere...it's on good. Anyways...here are a few pics.

Wow ReplayMan, the spoiler looks perfect. The fitment and color are spot on. I'm considering purchasing the spoiler but have been reluctant because of the finishing issues. After seeing your pics it might be something I'd be willing to deal with.
Would you be able to offer where you got it prepped/painted and for how much?
