just remove the lower intake resonator box- in the space behind the bumper- it attaches to the bottem of the air filter box
get that out of the way and get free cai

?? will this actually create a HP replacement for a true 'cai setup' or will it simply increase the sound of the intake?

not so-
per the tech at dealer, by increasing the volume of air availible to the engine- by removing the restrictor box, it will pull all the air it needs from a large cubic footage area.
There is a hole on the bottem of the airbox under the filter, its about the size of the cai pipe. the res fits into that hole. Remove it and have full air direct into the air filter
Because it sits up nice and high- in an area that has a water drain shield below it, its hard to get the filter wet like a normal CAI. As good as cai- I cant say- I went cheap and easy
but it does really help- when the wife notices, thats something~

My info may be off for your car, mine is gen2
The car has more power and better sound without the expense, and I dont fear normal puddles or unexpected splashes thru the grill

It definately adds power and sounds great too. Now I need to find out if there is a reflash to have the tranny shift a little harder. That sounds like a good topic for a new thread.
