Adding aftermarket mufflers to stock catback?

i have searched some, but never seen this touched on. i have seen the magnaflow custom catbacks people get done.

what i am looking for is; comptech/tanabe like SOUND. IE: quiet. i don't care about power gains (i didn't even feel my j-pipe, so a catback will be similar/even less), i just want the appearance and slightly different sound.

is there any mufflers you can just purchase and have welded in with a nice looking tip that are quiet? anyone done similar?

keep in mind, i care nothing about the claimed 8 rwhp power gains. not worth the cost difference for me over what mufflers/welding should cost.

The gains from a j-pipe, hi flow cats, or a cat back are from the lack of restriction. The most restrictive part is the stock cats next is the stock exhaust and then the j-pipe. You can get more sound by removing the mid muffler.

I am sure new mufflers are do able.

You can definitely get aftermarket mufflers welded on to your stock exhaust. But, I don't think it's worth it to hack up your stock exhaust.

CT Engineering's exhaust makes power and is on the quiet side: http://www.ct-engineering.com/store/product411.html

If even that is too loud, then you can order these quiet tip inserts: http://www.ct-engineering.com/store/240100.html

They also have a universal muffler to which you can add your own tips: http://www.ct-engineering.com/store/product1576.html

Buying a whole exhaust is definitely expensive, but worth it, IMO.

im not concerned about welding into the stock exhaust.

the stock sound is even fine for me, honestly i just want the look of aftermarket. i don't want the square tips. i know based off dyno sheets that the j-pipes add like 10 whp roughly. i don't feel any difference, lol. if it wasn't such a bitch to remove/install, i'd take it off and sell it.

thats my grounds for saying, i dont want to spend 650+ for a catback that will yield even less/maybe equal hp gains. i did see the thread about the dual tips. maybe for me, im better off just doing that. aspec rear bumper and tips would cost me much less then a catback

Yeah for me a 1k catback is a hard sell, one advantage of most makers of this is that it is stainless steel and isn't susceptible to rust (i live in the rust belt so this is important)_.

The performance gain isn't huge and 1k is alot to spend for minimal gains. I think your in the right mode of thinking getting a performance sound by adding aftermarket mufflers.

I think eventually i will get a cat back custom made..if i could weld i would easily do this myself.

Removing mid mufflers, 3rd cat and getting all pipes to 2.5 is the performance side of things.

One nice thing about stainless is it will last forever, but i'm having a hard time finding people who actually work with it..seems most like to take the shit route and your left with replacing your exhaust every 2 years because of rust.

Personally i think you should go to some exhaust shops and tell them your needs and they will assist. Magnaflow has many performance mufflers and i'm sure if stock exhaust is kept it will sound good.

i took the budget route with the looks incorporated that i wanted. i liked the type-s tips alot. with that usually a bumper change too.

i just ordered some quad tips and will have them welded to the stock mufflers at a shop. the tips fit tightly in a base bumper, but it can be done. so i compromised with this look, ill have about 100 bucks invested in it. versus a catback and bumper (600+ used, bumper 250ish).

i'm not even after sound, i think it sounds fine as it is. i like quiet..

drone bomb? what did it touch the bumper? otherwise, i don't see how tips off the stock exhaust will change anything. aside from the appearance.

here is the post where i decided to save all the money;

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...7&postcount=51

its in a stock bumper. it was also mentioned, you could tuck the tips higher. you would just need to move them outwards more. i will be going for a flush mount if possible with the edge of the bumper.

its either that, or the money for a type-s bumper and catback/weld tips anyway.

i think you guys are just skipping over what i recently decided to do. cause i fail to see how exhaust tips will cause drone and civic sounds, . i couldn't bring myself to order the a-spec kit.

it looks cheap imo, when you see something just installed over top of something else. sometimes it even looks bulky. certain pics it looks great, so maybe its better in person. regardless i went the cheap route so with the cash saved ill just do coilovers.

That TL with Quads looks retarted. They should have bought a Type S rear bumper to do it right.

haha.. well, im not a fan enough to actually pay for it. i like the appearance, but when you get up close i dont. it seems "cheap" to me to bolt it over the existing bumper. certain pics it makes the car look bulky, just my opinion.

im going to see how the quads look mocked up. i may have to buy the type s bumper like i mentioned. just trying to do this cost efficiently.

Drone: Trapped resonance inside of the cabin... you will get it with stock tubing and swapping out mufflers

i know what drone is. i just questioned how that would be introduced by swapping out muffler TIPS. i scrapped the aftermarket muffler idea. going to see how i like the look of the quads or maybe just get a type-s bumper/oem mufflers.

i want the appearance, without paying 1k for barely noticable power gains. seems im gonna pay 1k in the end regardless though, lol.
