To add J-pipe+test pipe... or not to.

I currently have the single tip resonated xlr8 catback and I get a great sound out of it. Besides hp gains, will adding the xlr8 jpipe and test pipe in place of the 3rd cat create an obnoxiously loud exhuast setup? Or will it still retain the good sound I have now on top of the horsepower gains?

Removing 1 cat ( the 3rd cat attached to j-pipe ) won't make much of a difference. Even putting PCD's won't make much of a difference. Problem is once you remove all 3 cats it gets tricky..... You will experience lots of rasp if you don't have the proper set-up ( resonators etc )

So yeah if you still have the stock Pre cats and you just want to upgrade the j-pipe and delete 3rd cat with your current cat-back it shouldn't sound too bad....

plus, that type of jpipe is OUTDATED.
you shouldnt be even looking at jpipes+test pipes....you should be looking at jpipes that removes the 3rd cat.

I wouldn't say the atlp is out of date, in fact in theory it's shorter primaries should give the best top end power while the rv6 will give you the most low end and the xlr8 being the middle ground. Though the atlp may only make a 5whp peak advantage over the completion.

everything you just said is negligible.
the gains are so small between the pipes, that it doesnt really matter for the general masses.
to the OP who might not care about small minuscule gains, a jpipe that removes the third cat is a wonderful thing, because then he doesnt have to worry about test pipes.

Installing our V1 j-pipe will net no real difference in sound. Installing our XLR8 V2 j-pipe will eliminate the third cat but it still won't alter the exhaust note that much. I'd recommend our XLR8 V2 j-pipe. It makes more power and is a better design.

Independent test on v6performance (think the owner posts here too) showed a 10 hp/9 lb-ft gain with the XLR8 V2 vs the V1 and test pipe on a J30.
