I still need to try something and this shop is getting very expensive....you got any shops you recommend ?

I guess it's just the nature of the performance shop business to take advantage people. You can get 4' by 2.5" ID sections of T-304 stainless for about $50 a section. I'd imagine your car has about 12' of piping. So that's ~$150. Mufflers should be $120 tops for decent Magnaflow units. The Magnaflow X pipe/muffler can be had for $80. In parts, I'm seeing ~$500 and that's customer price, not shop price. Their labor rate is also questionable. Their shop rate is $75/hr if I remember correctly. Did it really take them nearly 11 hours to build this exhaust? MC does focus on domestics, but there is nothing special about building a dual system for a car like a TL.

As for stainless, keep in mind it will still rust to an extent. Quality aluminized piping is much cheaper and will last well over 10 years. Point is, don't discredit aluminized piping as an option if cost is a driver.

If it were me, I'd consider another shop, but I think all it will take is someone to weld in two Magnaflow resonators. Shops you might want to consider:

Revline in KCMO - these guys are the KC import specialists
House of Boost in Lenexa - domestic and import specialists, cleanest shop EVER
Modified by KC in KCK - another import specialist
Roses Muffler in Grandview - always well reviewed

All these shops have websites except for Roses. Revline, House of Boost, and Modified also have dynos.

You could also ask around in automotive section of www.KCSR.org.

Thanks a lot Dave....This helps me a lot....

Which shop would you prefer if you just wanted to switch a muffler out ? a shop that welds properly and does a decent job without charging me an arm and a leg ?

The 99-04 Mustang GT's only had 260hp, and the Cobra's had 305hp in 99 and 01. 03-04 Cobra's had 390hp. Just FYI.

Also, swoosh the car sounds awesome! It's quite apparent I need to meet up with some fellow KC TL peeps and get some more ideas for my car.

390 is what they were rated at, however output was more like 425. A lot of those cars put down close to 380-390 in factory form.

Beginning with the original in 1993, every generation of the SVT Mustang Cobra has elevated its standard of performance. Now, the 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra raises the bar yet again, this time increasing power output to a level never before achieved in a production Mustang. The addition of a Roots-type supercharger and water-to-air intercooler to the Cobra's 4.6-liter, DOHC 4-valve V-8 engine bumps output to 390 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque.

yes....it will make your exhaust louder....since you have cats, you wont get tooooo much rasp....drone will be low as well since your adding a resonator and not a straight pipe....

if I were you, I would start off with a straight pipe and see how you like it and then if its tooo loud, put on a resonator....

he told he he had 305hp....we had a little talk about how its to the crank and he kept saying its to the wheels....when we raced, he did believe it was to the crank....

to his defense, he had a passenger and we did a 50 run....@50mph the TL is insane since you are at the top of 2nd and you shift into 3rd and people who are completely bolted on will tell you TL pulls hard in 3rd....since the car was new to him, he kinda took a split second to shift.....also @50mph he was in a lower rpm on 3rd i think....he was MT....I am AT....

after the honk, i put like 2 cars on him and he never had a chance after that....

I would go with either of these:

Part Number Shell Diameter (in.) Overall Length (in.) Shell Length (in.) Inlet Diameter (in.) Oulet Diameter (in.)
24234 4-in Round 16.5 12 2 1/4 2 1/4
24235 4-in Round 23.5 18 2 1/4 2 1/4

I have learned a lot from this forum and keeping anything secret would suck LOL

they are:
1> Bored TB....~72 mm
2> My TB Spacer and the gaskets are bored but will port match it to my TB (expecting ~71-72mm)
3> Bigger fuel injectors
4> ECU....JnR or AEM FIC....still undecided....

will have all of this by summer.... looking to get to ~325 to the wheels....being optimistic but well.....

one is stand alone. it's worth it because you can change timing at any rpm, not just +/- the stock mapping...same with fuel, etc.

well the JnR is known to give around 25hp to the wheels, so I have heard...plus bigger injectors and bored TB might add to the overall hp curve....again am being very optimistic here....i might barely break the 300hp mark but well....we will see
