2008 Acura TL Type S - Cold Air Intake
Hey everyone,
I have a 2008 Acura TL Type S, I am looking to purchase a Cold Air Intake but I am having a tough time finding a bypass valve so water does not get in. I contacted AEM and they said they don't have one that fits my vehicle. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

AEM doesn't make a bypass valve for the V2 intake for our cars as its not compatible with the second chamber. You should be able to get one if you have a single chamber intake, such as the V1

I understand that if I don't fully submerge it I will be fine but it would be nice to have the bypass valve, I know Injen has something similar to the air bypass valve that AEM has called the 'hydro shield' but not sure how well those work?

^ There has been numerous of threads like this so I advise you to search around and read the info.
I would be more concern with the type of filter than the pipe. Again, search and read.
There is ebay (Custom CAI), DC Sports, AEM, etc.
Check out our vendors too. They will help you select what you want.

installing a bypass valve would be a pretty significant preventative measure against hydrolocking. It's an extra step thats only really seems necessary if you live in an area with EXTREMELY deep puddles or flooding. I personally did hydro lock my engine once but that was due to a few factors one being my lack of knowledge on how to handle a submerged situation, the others being the unmaintained parking lot and crazy flash storm.

as long as you dont live in an area where flooding may occur, you should be fine

You have to submerge the filter in water to suck up water. Don't install the bypass valve; it will interrupt air flow and it falls apart. If you want a good CAI get the AEM V2 intake.

Save your money for mods that will actually make a difference. You do not really want to trade filtering capability for a little sound and no measurable HP gain. You already have a CAI stock, just remove the resonators and add a little aftermarket ducting and you will have better filtration and some of the sound you desire. If your after performance your not going to get any from the aftermarket CAI. Add some more money and get a j-pipe and you will get some return on your investment. There is a DIY here to show you how to achieve what I am describing.

I was worried about it too and honestly I've gone through some near-flood rainstorms and it's fine. The AEM hydroshield is available if you're feeling paranoid, as far as I know it goes on top of the filter but reduces flow.
As far as which intake, it's hard to go wrong.
I have the AEM V2 and if you're looking for sound, it's a great choice

If you have a type S TL you already have a good intake setup man. Like previous said, you won't gain much , except noise. The TL already has a semi-cold air intake stock. Others members here taught me this.

But then how does the Type S make so many more horsepowers? The intake must be colder air intake than base. Much woosh, many fasts.
But for cereal, I agree with the folks saying not to spend money on it. OEM setup has the best filtration too.

My 01 CL s has a the same style intake system and when I changed to the injen cai it was faster, better throttle response, sounded better. Injen claims a confirmed 10.8hp on their intake for the 01 CL type s and for the 08 tl type s there is a 12.9 hp increase. Not peak hp but still, it adds power all around.
