07 TL-S suggestions
07 TL-S suggestions
so i've been looking around at all the forums but have some general questions (bare with me, i'm new to the de-stocking process)....
i have 2 main concerns when it comes to modifying my car (07 NBP type-s) 1: not voiding the warranty and 2: not looking like it's been modified (much)...
talking to a few friends (one of whom had a 99, i think, near-jdm civic si that looked mostly stock) it seems that the best way to start is with intake/exhaust, etc...
looking at the threads here, the XLER8 quad non-res exhaust sounds great and looks stock enough for my taste, but im really in the dark when it comes down to where to begin...
help?

XLER8 Quads are a good start, so is a cold air intake. LED kits that replace the interor bulbs are cheap and easy to do mods.
the exhaust GB is going on now. We need 2 peeps to get the great price ever.

I see u are trying to make ur car a "sleeper". Look stock but will blast off like a rocket
Pretty simple..get full bolt on + XLR8 QUADS for originality..o and if u lower it,, well thats up to u..
of course u have to

princelybug: ok i feel a little silly asking this but all those abbreviations mean what exactly? (i speak "general car" fairly well, but not "modification speak") lol
jwong tls: exactly... however i live in the northeast and lowering the car with the very high (haha) road quality around here would probably be a bad idea
i would love to get in on the GB for the exhaust but $$ is tight at the moment (so planning this whole process is going to be important lol)...
what do y'all think would be a good first step once i decide what exactly i want to do? ie: exhaust and intake first? or what?

i was in the same boat as you like a week ago. Also get the resonated quads if you want it to be quieter. non res is louder

A cold air intake, like the one from AEM, is a fairly easy installation, gives you noticable performance gains and throtle responce, and only runs about $250. If you're looking to do your mods one piece at a time (like I am/was) the CAI is a good start.
Just make sure you don't stop there.

Guys, you must be careful what you suggest to mrusso. One of the things he stated he di NOT want to do was void out the warranty. There is a possibility to do that with a CAI or pulley.
I've got quite a few bolt on's and some cosmetic enhancments, but 99% of people (not including AZ people) probably can't tell it's not stock.

It's possible that a dealer can void your warranty for a CAI; it's unlikely but a dealer can try to do so. Most dealers aren't that ignorant. Of course if you drove through 3 ft of water with a cold air intake and hydrolocked your motor then they can blame the intake and void your warranty but they typically don't just b/c you have a different intake system. Also remember to read up on the Magnusson Moss Act.

hydrolocking an engine would/should never require the use of the warranty. if its not the manufactures fault they will never pay for this. its the insurance company that will be responsible, and for me they ended up covering the costs. if was an "accident" scenario and it wasnt due to my lack of maintenance, so they covered it. and it wasnt 3ft, it was only 1ft but at 45mph
I'm in the same shoes as the guy who posted this. I'm thinking for my first mod to go with a nice intake, but like ive heard, hydrolocking can void the warranty. What performance part can i install that will be relatively easy, no over 300$, and will not void the warranty, perhaps something that can make my 07 tl type S 5at a little bit louder?

CAI = Cold Air Intake
Crank Pulley = Pretty self-explanatary. (Googling it is easier than me typing so much)
J-Pipe = Part of the exhaust coming down from your engine block that is separated from your exhaust by the 3rd catalytic converter.
Test-Pipe = This is something that replaces the 3rd catalytic converter. (It's just a hollow piece of piping that is the same diameter as the exhaust is, hopefully).
Throttle Body Spacer = A "spacer" that is placed in between the throttle body and your air intake. (Either stock or aftermarket)
RSB = Rear Sway Bar. This is located underneath your car, where the rear axle is.
Hope this helps!
the dealership near my place will pretty much void warranty for ANY part that they dont personally put on themselves... if you want a CAI and exhaust, i suggest letting the dealer put it on so its on file, and they later on cant give you bs if things start to go wrong... The only things i can think of that warranty is not covered are wheels and tires.. just a thought
