This doesn't look like a 04 TL w/ Navi controls.

A friend of mine has a homebrew computer in his Z/06 Corvette. It's one of those mini-ATX PCs mounted in the back, connected to an LCD display which replaces the factory stereo head unit. He has WiFi, Bluetooth, a GPS receiver, an OBD-II interface, and hundreds of watts of audio power.

It looks very similar to what's in those pictures.

Its a TSX. If you want to do this, go and participate in the Navi/DVD conversion group buy. I'm sure with the right equipment you can hook a computer up to the conversion module.

I don't know what inputs your A/V switch has, but I would think that your switch would have normal TV inputs. If you build the PC yourself, just get a card with a TV out. Then it is just a matter of setting the resolution. Just a thought.

Sigh...you lost me at the Windows XP screen. Someone's gotta make a Mac version of this.

Otherwise, this is great! IIRC, the navi system in the TSX and TL are roughly similar, so the mod should be similar for the TL.

actually ive read up on this mod for literally 4 hours straight. Apparently it is pretty easy to hook up a mac the same way. Im planning on hacking up my old Dell and stuffing it into a shuttle PC or micro ATX PC and hookin it up. So far the most expensive part is the OPUS 150w power suplly w/ built in DC-DC and shut down/start up controller. It auto starts when ever the iginition starts and put s the computer into hiubernate when you shut off ignition. pretty neat.

Where are you finding the information? I would love to know how to get this done. I would also like to know more about how well the interface components work such as the touch pad mouse and creative remote.

well think of how freaking awesome it would be if we could tap into the touch screen. Then you dont need the touch pad hanging out. Possible? SOMEHOW maybe, but not by any mortals I know. You'd have to have someone savy with the hardware to have a shot of tapping into that stuff. But if you could.... dang.

theres no single place for this information, Ive spent hours on end looking at this stuff. Anywho, I was referred to this guy over at a tsx forum and he showed me the pics. Do a search an you will come up with lots of stuff. It seems pretty complicated. First of all you need to have an A/V switcher set up already (AVElectronics.com). Then U basically need a computer than has a TV out so you can hook it up. U need a couple of wires to get the sound working but it seems pretty simple if you already have the switcher. If you dont, the most tricky part is running the power from the car to the unit. Any pro installer can do it easily. Thanks! Good Luck to yall if you guys want to do it. I want to but currently all my A/V ports are filled up already. Im thinking about taking out my DVD player and just using the Computer to play DVDs and as a 200GB MP3 storage

Also, contolling it is up to you. U can be creative. THis guy uses an infared remote to go through the computer. I think im going to use a gyration mouse if you guys have ever seen them. www.gyration.com , and for the keyboard ill probably use a foldable RF wireless keyboard that fits in the glovebox.

Actaully it IS possible. Hoever the navi touchscreen works in blocks that senses pressure. So basically you could only press things in about 1/2" points.

So if that program being used doesn't already fit within those blocks, one would have to be coded. Or at least modified. THAT is perfectly doable... hehe.

Your navi screen basically works like this. There are sensor "points" every 1/4-1/2" or so. If you have you car off, if you liook at an angle you can see these points. These "points can be hacked and made so it does whatever you press on the screen. However, the points are spread far apart so it would be hard selecting something in a close group. For example, a drop down menu or programs list is really really close together so you would have to have anorexic hands or be very very lucky to select the option you want.

I understand that, I do Pocket PC support at Microsoft. Got the touch screen thing down. I was saying, if you can't find a program for Windows for that resolution that fits into those areas, it'll have to be made or modified. (For example, the buttons may be scrunched closer together than the resolution of the touch screen...)

You, my friend, will get some reputation points for your astute MAC OS comment!

Besides, a MAC environment will compliment the classy interior of the TL; windows seems out of place in a TL.
