Is wiring Ipod into radio worth it?
I have an 06 tl with Nav.
I currently have my ipod touch and I use it through the tape deck adapter. How much better is the sound quality if I wire it into the radio.
If i do get it wired into the radio I am afraid if I take it somewhere they will mess something up or make it not look perfect.
Should I have it done at the dealership? Where would they install the wire?

The ipod adapter is def. worth the money. Just being able to control it from the steering wheel is a whole lot safer and easier. The install is nothing really that hard. Its overwhelming at first, but when you start its pretty easy. Check out a few of the DIY's here on it.
This is what happens, a Y connector cord is pluged into the XM slot behind the radio, the XM wire is connected to one end and the other is your Ipod Adapter. The wire runs to a little box which will have an aux input and an ipod wire input cord. Take the cord and run it to your ipod.
The ipod adapter does not affect xm radio at all, and if you want, you can buy a module that can also give you song information too.

I was thinking of having someone install it for me but I am not sure if I was going to have the dealer install it or if I wanted to have someone else like a car audio place do it. I am good with electronics but I do not think I want to take the chance of messing up the car at all. I want it done so well that it will look like it came from the factory that way.

Here's a set of instructions on how to do it: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/i-160-usa-spec-install-633080/
And just to add to csmeance's comment - yes, it is absolutely worth it. The controls are superior and so is the sound.

Any brand recommendations? I am tired of fishing around to switch tracks. Also is there any way to NOT pull the radio out? I know that sounds funny coming from me but I am all about less work lol. I know it sounds like a great Sunday morning project to most but when you do this day in and day out it looses its shine quickly.

I bought the Peripheral unit and tried to install it myself this last weekend (with the instructions posted in this forum), but saw that I would eventually have to take apart my center unit and took it to Best Buy for them to install it. Cost for install was $50 and I think it was worth it to have them do the install and take the risk of damaging the interior.
The sound is awesome and I would highly recommend it.
