Where do you put your phone?

I usually put my BlackJack into the frontmost cupholder when I drive, but I often just leave it in my left front pocket, where I carry it.

Has anyone found a difference in performance of the HFL or the cell signal strength based on where they put their phone? I had thought I was dropping the HFL-Phone connection due to not having the phone close enough to the HFL module, but it doesn't seem related to proximity on further examination.

This morning, I left my phone in my pocket the entire commute and experienced no difference in performance compared to when I put it in the cupholder. I'm thinking that's the way to go from now on as...

1. I won't forget it in the car.
2. It won't rattle around.
3. If I get out of the car for something quick, like getting gas, I'll still have it with me.
4. If I get carjacked (do people still do that?), I'll have my phone with me to call it in.

I've also found that holding the phone high in the cabin while passing through an area prone to dropped calls seems to make no difference at all.

The HFL is bluetooth so the connection to the HFL will change once connected. You cell strength is a different issue and will change based on the areas you're driving through.

I have an old Motorola V710. I put a car charger in the center console behind the shifter where "cigarette lighter" is. I attach my phone, drop it in there, close the top, slide the top forward and I'm on my way. The only thing that sucks is I don't have much storage left in that compartment now.

My phone is stored under the armrest when charging. When not charging, it's:
1) In the cupholder adjacent to armrest or on top of the tambor/sliding cupholder door, or
2) In a pocket or belt case.
Otherwise, there is some audio feedback if my phone is placed in the console compartment in front of the shifter.

Usually it's in my pants pockets unless I'm recharging it in the center console. No issues. (It's a older Razr)

In fact, I've noticed that if I leave the phone in my kitchen when I go out to the garage to do something to the car (of course, with the key on), that the HFL detects the phone and connects. My garage is detached from the house, about 25' away from the kitchen, which is on the far side from the house.

Bluetooth has a fairly wide range and with the close proximity within our cars, the cell phone's location should not affect the HFL pairing (maybe unless you leave the phone buried in a bag in the trunk). Here are some details from the official Bluetooth website:
Range
The operating range depends on the device class:

* Class 3 radios – have a range of up to 1 meter or 3 feet
* Class 2 radios – most commonly found in mobile devices – have a range of 10 meters or 30 feet
* Class 1 radios – used primarily in industrial use cases – have a range of 100 meters or 300 feet
As evolpe suggested, reception from your service provider is another story.

I usually put it in the front cupholder or side door pocket if its not in my pants pocket, but since my phone has stayed connected when i was 20ish feet away from the car i wouldnt worry about it

Normally, I just leave it in my right pocket. If I am going to a run or to the gym, then I put it in my gym bag in the trunk. It works without issue from either location.

Just like this. Both are hooked up to chargers from the center. The chargers hold them in place. I simply use a cassette adapter for the iPod. Very inexpensive, much better sound than the FM modulator, and doesn't skip and hang up like the USA Spec stuff.

I store my phone in a Kuda mounting base.

They have custom made models for a variety of makes and designed a specific mount for the TL covered in leather.

see the following link for information;
