2) Third Eye Blind - "Blue"

3) Third Eye Blind - "Out of the Vein"

4) Edwin McCain - "Scream and Whisper"

5) Steely Dan - 'Everything Must Go"

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense (DVD-A ripped from movie DVD)
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (DVD-A)
Seal - Greates Hits (DVD-A)
Police - Every Breath You Take - Classics (DTS)
Sting - Brand New Day (DTS)
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors (DVD-A)

PS - Third Eye Blind is phenominal. Top 5 band in my collection. When are they coming out with a new album anyway?

Hey lumpy...I have been wondering that myself. They are way overdue for another one. Their most recent CD "Out of the Vein" was released 3 years ago yesterday....May 13, 2003. I checked their website and no mention of any new material as of yet.

Fairly eclectic mix of DVD-A discs . . .
  1. Blue Man Group - The Complex (still the best DVD-A I have)
  2. Metallica - Black Album
  3. Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
  4. Home burned rap DVD-A (Dr. Dre - Chronic, Snoop Dog - Doggystyle, Murder Was the Case Soundtrack, Puff Daddy - No Way Out, Notorious BIG - Life After Death)
  5. Queen - The Game
  6. Dire Straights - Brothers in Arms
I also have virtually the entire Talking Heads Brick in my console. Speaking in Tongues, True Stories and Little Creatures all sound amazing, but when are they going to issue Stop Making Sense? I have ripped my DVD video version, but there are some gaps in the audio (which are fine in the movie) that I have not the patience to try to edit out.

acousticsounds.com, but it is just the regular DVD-A, afaik. I have had problems with some dual discs but The Complex is a DVD-A, I believe. Any dual-disc that displays the NTSC logo does not play.

What Johnny Cash disc is it?

The Legend of Johnny Cash... a lot of great songs and I really love his version of Hurt the Nine Inch Nails song. Very powerful if you know his life story IMO.

Cowboy Junkies Trinity sessions
Fleetwood Mac Rumors DVD a
John Hiatts Greatest Hits
The Subdudes Enunciation
Howie Day an I tune mix
Bob Dylan Blond on Blond...

With many new cars coming out with DVD A based systems, one would believe the selection might take off. Best Buy is down to one rack with maybe 15 titles. Really sucks.

In order by disc number in the changer:

1) Disc 2 of "The Very Best of Jackson Browne"
2) DVD-A of Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours"
3) DTS 5.1 CD of the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over"
4) Hybrid SACD of Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms"
5) CD of Brian Wilson's "Smile"
6) CD of "The Corrs Live in Dublin"

For ezrapon—try ordering DVD-As online from either http://www.amusicdirect.com or http://www.acousticsounds.com. Much better selections than a mass-market place like Best Buy will ever have. Most importantly, both Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds sell VINYL, which Best Buy will never have.

Eagles-Hell Freezes Over (DVD-A) Great concert, good use of 5.1
Blue Man Group Audio(?) (DVD-A) Awesome, I'll be getting their other releases
Sting Brand New Day (DTS ) I was amazed with the clarity
June Rich (CD) A small New England band that should be huge, great cd
Roy Orbison Black and White Night (DVD-A) A must have if you like Orbison
Fleetwood Mac Rumors (DVD-A) Great album but doesn't really make use of DVD-A capabilities

Lumpydog, it looks like we have similar tasts. I have never heard of Third Eye Blind but which of the three listed would you recommend for a newbie?

slap.....it wasn't lumpy with the 3 Third Eye Blind CD's in his changer, it was me...lol. If I had to chose which Third Eye Blind CD for you to listen to first it would have to be their first CD. It's likely you have already heard one of the songs from that CD..."Semi-Charmed Life". It also has the excellent "Jumper", "Motorcycle Drive By" and "How's it Gonna Be". The CD closes with the song that Third Eye Blind closes every one of their live shows with....the superb "God of Wine".

All three of their CD's are 10's if you ask me....and one could make an argument that each release has gotten progressively better. But their first CD is the logical starting point.

I notice some people are specifying format (DVD-A vs. CD) in this thread. I personally find that information helpful. rasutton got me all exciterated thinking Johnny Cash was available on DVD-A.

I have three copies of "Smile"—the LP, the CD, and the DVD-video of a live performance. The surround-sound mix on the DVD-V is very impressive, an outstanding performance. I think I got it from Music Direct, linked in my earlier post.

I have both SACD and DVD-A on my home system so I get the best of both worlds. The biggest disappointments were Allman Bros live at the Filmore, anything by Neil Young, and the Moody Blues. All great Bands, but the mix, fidelity, and lack of surround just left me flat. Of all the music the absolute best by far is Dark Side of the Moon. Killer surround and fidelity. Unfortunately, only available in SACD. I believe it was actually recorded originally in 5.1 for 8 track or whatever. Some of Dylan's SACD's are actually pretty nice as well.

Nope - check this out - I took my most listened to MP3s and put them into categories - each category on a DVD-R. Burned 6 DVDs and have 821 songs onbards including the following:

Avril Lavigne, Belinda Carlisle, Ben E King, Blink 182, Bryan Adams, Bush, Christina Aguilera, Corrs, Cranberries, Cure, Delerium, Dido, Dramarama, Eagle Eye Cherry, Evanescence, Foo Fighters, Frank Sinatra, Garbage, Gin Blossoms, Go Gos, Gin Blossoms, Hillary Duff, James Blunt, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Killers, Lifehouse, Linkin Park, Lisa Loeb, Madonna, Matthew Good Band, Michelle Brance, Natalie Imbruglia, Natalie Merchant, No Doubt, Norah Jones, Oasis, PM Dawn, Paul Okenfold, Police, Sarah Brightman, Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Vanessa Carlton, Will To Power, Shakira, Pussycat Dolls, 50 Cent, Notorious BIG, Black Eyed Peas, Brandy, Brian McKnight, Ciara, Coolio, Digital Underground, Dr Dre & Snoop, Easy E, Eminem, Houston & Chingy, Ice Cube, Ice T, J-Kwon, Kanye West, Kris Kross, Lighter Shade Of Brown, Mack 10, Naughty By Nature, Nelly, Paperboy, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Usher, Warren G, Righteous Brothers, Fugeees, Bangles, Britney Spears, Roxette, Coldplay, Beach Boys, Timbaland & Magoo, Daddy Yankee, Chipz, Will Smith, Akon, Ben Folds Five, Foo Fighters, Verve Pipe, Los Lobos, Vertical Horizon, Andre Bocelli, LL Cool J, Kelis, Evanescence, Tina Turner, ABC, Michael Jackson, Garbage, 10K Maniacs, Sugar Ray, Sarina Paris, DMX, Apollo 440, Ozzie, Aerosmith, Collective Soul, Blue Oyster Cult, Snow, Jars Of Clay, Celine Dion, Cypress Hill, Beatles, Sting, Scorpions, Goo Goo Dolls, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, REM, Pink, Gregorian Chant, Mozart, Beethoven, JS Bach, about 50 Trance/Tencho songs, and about 50 Depeche Mode songs.

I usually make disc 6 my reburn disc which is a DVD-RW which I keep updating with new stuff every 2 weeks.

That's what happens when you watch PBS as a kid and MTV as an adult

It helps that I used to DJ so I can easily remember song names/titles and when the song came out. Too bad my hearing is shot now

I have the DVD-V also. The two disk set with the movie about the making of smile and then the concert footage. Just wish Rhino would release a DVD-A or DTS version of it. Didn't hook up my turntable the last time I moved as all my vinyl was damaged in hurricane Hugo a few years ago. Someday when I have time, I'll clean up some of them and burn them to CD.

Prior to getting the TL I had an SACD player that my father had given me. A few months after getting the TL I decided that a universal player made more sense, so I got a Marantz DV-9500. Very nice unit. For anyone interested in playing DVD-As (or SACDs) at home, I highly recommend it—plus, I think it may have been discontinued, so it can probably be had for a good discount right now.
