This wasn't just released or anything...it has been out for a while...but yes, Nakamichi was the company that invented the technology.

I use to work for Nakamichi Canada, and yes, they were the first to invent this design. It was invent by Nakamichi himself. Nak also incorporated this design into CD-Roms. The problem with all Nakamichi equipment was that they always were the LAST to introduce their products into the marketplace. And when they needed to cut costs, they moved their plants to China. How would you like to spend big $$ and see "Made in China" on the side of the box? The QC also went to hell.

Nak CD head units always had issues. Mostly with the mechanisms, as it wasn't manufactured by Nak, but by Sony. If you crack open any Nak head unit, you'll find more parts from Sony and Philips.

The best Nak cd head unit every made was the CD-700.

If I'm not mistaken, the CD-700 retails for: $1749.99(that's the price Nakamichi has released in the price sheet they sent me)...

......I've got them for $1275.00 for anyone interested.

Correction: The best cd head unit ever made by Nakamichi was the CD-760, not the 700.
