Verizon, SprintPCS, Alltel and the rest
I'm completely demoralized now that Verizon hasn't announced the release/sale of the v710. I have no Bluetooth option here in the middle of nowhere. I currently use SprintPCS and want to switch to Verizon due to better coverage.
Can't tell from the web sites of T-mobile or Cingular or Alltel whether they have a bluetooth phone. I really want a clamshell version.
Also, I want to buy it directly and not have to buy it clandestinely overseas 'unlocked' and go through hoops to get it to work with a local system.
Any suggestions? Maybe buy a phone card?

Cingular offers the now infamous v600 in your area. If you want to keep your Sprint service and do not want a contract with Cingular, you can buy the phone at full retail price($350) and you don't have to sign a contract. You are better off with a post paid plan as apposed to a pre-paid one. Pre-paid is for those who are credit challenged, I think it costs like $0.35 a minute peek.

If you are looking for a GSM clamshell phone, Sony Ericsson sells the Z600 through their website but its cheaper if you go through places like www.globalmob.com. Saves you almost $200 bucks with the same phone. T-mobile does have bluetooth phones: Nokia 3650, 6600 and Sony Ericsson T610. Cingular has the Sony Ericsson T616 & T637. As for the release date, the last I heard/read was July 7th but now I'm also seeing that its being pushed back till August.

When I first read your post I thought you were saying you could use the V600 on Sprint but after re-reading, I see that you were talking about having 2 plans - one with Cingular and one with Sprint. Right?

I switched to Sprint a few months ago, not realizing I may buy a TL this soon (I will probably buy the car next week).
I e-mailed Sprint the other day and they replied that they have the Sony Ericsson T608 available with Bluetooth. Is there any reason this won't work in the TL?

Thanks again.

Sorry,
Went away for a few days and haven't looked at e-mail or the forums.
I live in Lower Alabama (not Cleveland, though that's where I'm from and most of my family is still there - including wife's family)
I still want a Clamshell design. I'd wait for the Nokia 6255 (though it looks ugly). I'd prefer the Motorolla V710 with Verizon, but would consider T-mobile.
The phone card idea was a joke. I don't want two plans and Cingular doesn't seem to have a good reputation here.
Again, I don't want to buy a phone from a web site and then have to jump through hoops to unlock it, program it or get it to work.
On another note - I just returned from a long weekend in SanDestin Florida and this morning went on a wave runner, got my old SprintPCS Samsung 8500 wet and the keys won't work. Can't unlock it. Might be dead. We'll see. If I'm forced to choose, I'll likely choose T-mobile and a SE T616 or 608, though they're not clamshells. ARGH!!!!!!!!!
I guess the rediculous point is that I really wan't a CLAMSHELL designed phone with Bluetooth that works with the TL (and displays everything with good battery life). I'm just high maintenance!

I heard a lot of bad things about the T608. I would stay away. It's frustrating because my current phone only has about 5 hours of battery life. Go here and read this thread; apparently a new one is coming out.
