Tweeters blew...how?
Tweeters blew...how?
i just put them in today was cranking them for awhile and then they gave up but only my 2front 1s not the back 1s and there all the same they felt hot before they went there memphis too but are not silk how and why
Not enough info for anyone to determine why they blew.
How did you wire components? Did you use x overs?
What are their ratings?
What amp? Ratings?
How did you set up the lc6?
You said you were cranking them.... What were your amp gain settings?
Too much voltage can blow them. Maybe you wired them on the wrong terminals on the xovers

If you were playing them fine on and at a decent level, I would assume you blew them due to over driving them (too much gain/voltage) AND/OR your x-over point was too low and at a moderate volume it's okay, but at high volumes it didn't like it too much
If you did not use a crossover, that's why you blew them. The stock tweeters have a cap built onto the tweeter. If you just hooked them up to the stock wiring, you were putting a full range signal to them but they should have sounded terrible before they blew.

Agreed. Wouldn't you say WAY too much power over time if the tweeters were hot to the touch? What do tweeters usually get, 10w? 20w? I think he had too much power because he was running a full range signal to them. Going back to read his old threads and see if that's the case.

You should really just take it to a shop and have them hook it up for you. It will probably save you a lot of time and frustration and prevent you from damaging more of your equipment.
As long as you run the crossover that came with your components with new speaker wire run from the crossovers to the tweeters you should be ok. You would have to really hammer on them to blow the tweeters if it's hooked up properly.
To be clear, the only thing the tweeter should be directly hooked up to is a crossover, not directly to any other piece of equipment. If you used the stock wiring without running new wire, you did not have a crossover in the mix unless there was a cap at the tweeter itself.

called memphis
they said i got bad x overs i was pissed so ijust got me some pioneer 6.5 3ways and put them on and for 160 bucks i cant believe the sound they are so clear will be getting my 400 bucks back from memphis
3-way as in a "triaxial" or a 3-way comp set? I love a 3-way comp set. All else being equal they just sound better in every way, are easier to tune, and get louder while maintaining clarity.... all else being equal.
If it's the other one, you will likely have other issues such as stage issues but if it sounds good to you and you're happy, that's all that matters. Do you have a link to the ones you purchased?
