TVandNav2Go PNP!
TVandNav2Go PNP!
I am about to order the PNP TVandNav2Go , but i was wondering if anyone could give me some input on how it is, i have done a search and it keeps on bringing up NON -PNP versions. I was looking at putting a dvd player above the "this is not an ashtray" compartment, does anyone reccomend any player that will directly fit in, or with out too much modification?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you,
-Rob

I have been really thinking about getting this
http://cgi.ebay.com/Small-All-Region...QQcmdZViewItem
Its small, has a cig adapter which can be permenantly connected to the slot under the center arm rest/console, and if it fits in the compartment in front under the tape deck you can have it opened when using the remote to control the DVD player, since the only drawback is it doesnt have remote eye and needs slight removal everytime you need to load a DVD

hey rrickh1,
I think it's worth the money to buy the PNP version, espcially if you ever need servicing without voiding your factory warranty. Granted it's not entirely "plug and play" because you still have to tap 12V power supply, ground 3 wires and lengthen some wiring for the converter switch to the front of the car. What is plug and play is the harness behind the factory nav unit. Once you have the trunk dissassembled, the actual process of hooking into the "brain" only takes 5 minutes including tucking all wires away, etc.
What took me the longest was zip tieing and routing wires so that it didn't look messy and would be a quick removal incase I needed to. I consider myself a pretty good installer when it comes to wiring but in no way did I want to cut my factory harness into pieces...just my opinion. Cutting into the wiring if done incorrectly also leaves the possibility of electrical 'noise' in the system. I took full pics of my install and I would post them if I had the time to upload to a server....plus i'm lazy! as soon as I do this, I'll post some pics of the install. Oh yeah...if you buy the tvandnav2go version, talk to kim and ask if you can get the acurazine group buy deal. O.G. price is $299, asked for the group buy, and got $240 shipped to california.
And they DO use factory oem harnesses so everything fit perfectly. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask...you won't be disappointed with the quality of dom's unit.

Just bought the unit and I found that the instructions weren't as detailed (or specific to the TL) as I had hoped. Been searching the Garage and the subforum for DIY instruction for the Dom TVandNav2Go PNP unit... came up with nothing
I've seen a lot of picture posts of the finished install, but nothing to serve as a DIY guide. Closest result is what DCC stated above.
I am planning just to have RCA plug mounted somewhere that will lead back to the DOM unit. DOM will provide the video, and when I finally decide on an audio interface, that will provide the audio.
What I want to know is what needs to be taken apart (back seats, center console, etc.), which wires need to go where (esp the wires that need to be grounded and where), more details on how to run an add a circuit to the fuse box, and how to mount the switch.
From what I picked up:
Still a bit confused since the info is scattered around.
DCC, I am very interested in your DIY pics/writeup if you get to it. I can help you post it if you want.
Anyone else that can provide me some guidance?
Thanks in advanced!

From what I picked up:
- Most are keeping the DOM in the trunk, for a backup camera, which I plan on eventually installing.
- Add a circuit runs to the fuse box at location OP1 or OP2 (I forgot the fuse numbers) to provide power to the DOM unit.
- Seems like removing the rear passenger seats and the center storage console is required to run the wires from the front of the car to the trunk.
Still a bit confused since the info is scattered around.

Found this DIY for non PNP on a 2000 TL.
Not exactly what I'm looking for, but offers some insight. Anything better out there?

datmrman,
I already had a sub amp installed in the trunk before I got the Dom unit PnP. For the 12v power to the Dom unit and my backup camera, I just tapped into the amp's remote turn on terminal. My remote turn on signal is a single wire that I ran to the driver's side fuse box. That brass fuse tap was made for a larger fuse but I used a grinder to shape it so it would fit our mini fuses. I think I got the fuse tap from Radio Shack. (Notice I tapped into the lower half of the 7.5amp fuse.) By doing this, the remote wire is still fused by this fuse. The blue remote wire is run under the door edge trim along the driver's side to the trunk.

Amp terminals that I tapped into for power ground.

Everything Concealed behind panels.

Since my USA Spec unit is under the driver's seat, I ran a video RCA cable from Dom's Unit to the driver's seat where it comes out next to the USA Spec unit. I did this to keep the video and audio inputs hidden and accessible under the seat. I have the dvd toggle swich mounted in the center console bin to the right of the 12volt power plug. I didn't have to remove the console to mount the switch. I did have to loosen the console enough to lift the rear end of it up a few inches to work at drilling a hole for the toggle and mounting it. I think I had to reach my fingers through the access panel in the bottom of the console bin to hold the rear of the toggle while I mounted it.
All of the wiring from Dom's unit to the center console and driver's seat were run under the carpeting. Once you get the rear seat cushion out, it's not too difficult to get your arm under the carpet but I had to use a coat hanger to pull the video RCA up to the hole in the carpet under the driver's seat.
Hope some of this helps, let us know if you have any more questions.

Very clean install for your amp there!
Thanks for the insight Crook, some more questions:
Where exactly is the PNP harness plugged in? I'm still a bit confused with this. I thought it was plugged in the back with the DVD-ROM drive, but I've read some people are pluging it behind the nav screen.

So for the DOM, there are 3 wires to ground, a power source to tap, wires extended for the switch, and everything else should be taken care of with the PNP (other than the backup camera for later)?
Do I need to do anything with the backup camera wires so that they dont activate when I go into reverse? My backup camera will be a future addition.
Is it possible to run all the wires through the door edge trim? It would just require extra long wires. I would like to avoid removing the seats if possible.
Sorry if the questions seem trivial. I haven't performed any DIY wiring in the car before.

DATMRMAN...
I guess this is why I took pics during the install...to help a brotha out! I'm uploading the pics as we speak...I don't know exactly how to modify the pics with text and arrows but I'll try to describe in detail. I think the pics will answer alot of your questions. btw...how's that window up module working for you? I'm itching to get one but KP is still on backorder
Anyway, the thread should be up in an hour...still at work

I will looking forward to your DIY! Thanks DCC!
The KP module has been working great. Drove to work with windows down and sun roof open, parked the car, got out, started walking, clicked the lock button on the key fob twice.. doors locked with confirmation beep and soon after, all the windows rolled up.

Argh, I'm falling behind on my mods schedule
Datmrman, I think you should do the camera the same time you do DOM's unit since you'll be running a power line anyways. The only reason I haven't bought everything was I was waiting to see if anybody had any new comments on Wendy's new camera - it has a shorter body so it doesn't stick out as much - just wondering if that would impede the view and require trimming

Datmrman,
DCC showed you where the pnp harness is plugged into behind the dvdrom drive. The harness will plug in up at the head unit but it isn't recommended plus you would have to wire your future camera rca cable up there too. There's more room in the trunk anyway.
If you don't have a reverse camera yet then you can just leave the blue wire on Dom's unit unused. If your prewire the blue wire to your reverse lights now, you'll just get a black screen on the NAV when you put the car in reverse. I agree with colossus, I wouldn't previre the blue wire until you get your camera because you'll have a cleaner install if you do it all at once. This way you'll only have to drop the trunk lid panel once. You could stub out a 12volt power wire and ground wire and tape it off for now until you get your camera. This will make it easier to wire up during your future camera install.
Yes, it is possible to run several wires along the door edge trim and all the way into the trunk without removing the seats. The rear seat cushion is really simple to remove though. I think there is was one bolt and a couple of clips that you squeeze under the font edge.
Anymore questions? Let us know.

Thanks guys for the additional info!
Now it seems like I need to look into getting a camera before I install the Dom unit. More toys to buy. I am sure racking up the Cashback Bonus points this month!
