Trunk Rattle

Hey guys,

I installed 2 12 in alpine Type e's and for the first week or so there was no rattling. After a couple of weeks my trunk rattles as soon as I turn my volume above 20. Any idea's on how to fix this myself instead of taking it somewhere?

Thanks,

Identify the source of the rattle and deaden it. No sense taking it to someone thats going to do the same thing.

Agreed. If it's the common license plate and license plate frame, that's an easy fix. Put a little deadener behind the plate and make sure to use all 4 bolts. As for the frame, I removed mine. It looks cleaner to me and I could never get the rattles to completely stop.

If it's inside of the car, there are a lot of threads on this. The easiest route is sticking a piece of cardboard or anything soft between the rear shelf and the glass.

I don't have a frame on mine either but I can only get 3 of my screws in because one of my screws broke in half inside the thread due to rust. The spot between the shelf and window is a big part of the rattle so I will try that. The other source I feel like is the trunk itself. If I stand behind the car and push the trunk down it will stop the rattle sound. I also dyno matted the license plate and that seemed to help some. Any suggestions on the trunk would be great.

I found that the direction the woofer and ports are facing and proximity to the edges of the trunk affected rattles. Now I have my woofer pointed to the front with no phase or rattle issues. No matter what though that rear shelf needs to be cushioned between it and the glass of the rear window. To fix the license plate issue I rolled up some electrical tape sticky side out and placed it between the plate and trunk.

CLD tiles on the outer skin may help you as well

Remove the weight in the trunk lid. It makes a lot of noise... at least mine did.

There is also another thread about this. Apparently it was a chronic problem with 3G TL's. This might help as well.
