Tape deck not working

I just bought my '06 TL with navi the other day and I am lost without my iPod. Since I just bought the car I'm waiting a bit to install an interface that will let me control everything through the stereo/steering wheel. I bought a tape deck adapter for the time being. For some reason after I put the tape in, the unit either spits it right back out after a couple of seconds, or keeps it in and automatically switches to the last medium (FM, CD, etc.) The deck also failed to play a standard music tape.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Any solutions/suggestions? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Not sure how many people really use the tape deck these days, but it should work. Perhaps someone can chime in about it.

I use mine periodically, but I have no idea what might be wrong with his. Once upon a time I would have suggested demagnetizing and cleaning it, but I rather doubt that many TL owners have used the tape player enough to require such.

One thought I do have is that I recall talking to a guy at a car stereo store about 20 years ago about cassette adapters for use with a Discman—I was in college, had a 1982 Accord, and didn't have the money to replace the stereo—and he recommended against using such, said they wear out the cassette player too quickly (I do not remember why). Maybe the prior owner of azizmark's TL used one of those a lot and wore it out?

tape decks never liked those adapters. They are weighted wired so many of them just kick it out.

Just spend the couple hundred bucks and put a USA Spec or iSimple in and be done.

Thanks a lot for the input everyone. Yea I'm gonna spring for the USA Spec interface, I read good reviews on it. Those adapters don't do the car/sound system justice anyway, it probably worked out that the tape deck didn't work.

I have the same problem. I have never used the tape deck but now that I want to hook up iPod to it, it doesn't work. I have also tried inserting a tape that will clean it, but it spits that out too. Figured something might be wrong with it, but I guess not. Like azizmark I will probably go with the Ipod Interface as well! By the way, mine is an 05 TL.
