Super simple iPad dash mount

So I've been trying to think of a good way to mount my ipad on my dash for months...

My prerequisites are:

-Cannot cover vents
-Cannot cover important controls
-Must be easy to attach/detach
-Must interface with existing sound system, not replace it (as I have XM and listen to a lot of AM radio)
-Any changes must be completely reversible (cant cut up the dash, etc)

My wishlist is:

-Would be nice to accommodate a case
-Would be nice if it looked clean when the ipad is not in place

After toying with at least 30 ideas over the span of the months, I almost gave up. Until I brainstormed with my wife. Here's what we came up with:

Use three of these:

Here's how it turned out:

and with the iPad in place:

I'm really surprised with how elegant and clean the install ended up being. I painted the L screws black as well, so they match the dash better.

Although I really like this install, it feels a little ghetto to me... but I can't think of anything else as clean or effective. If you guys have any suggestions, let me hear them

how does that not slide out when you take a sharp turn, And WOW fo putting screws in there. Weird how noone integrated an ipad into the dash on a TL yet. Moved the radio screen to the bottom where the storage compartments are and fit the ipad where the radio screen should be. I wish I had the skills to do it, I think it would be sweet

yeah ill second that... its kind of risky putting those screws where they are something could have been damaged making the entire radio not work. Hopefully he was smart and removed the radio to see what was behind those screw locations.

ive thought about integrating my ipad2 into my car i have extensive car audio/electronics experience as well as welding and fiberglass experience. The only thing holding me back is i use my TL for work and would go insane without a radio for a few days while this project would be going on.

Can't you stick a suction mount on the screen?

Myron: Holds it quite tight actually, doesn't move at all. I think it's because of the curvature of the dash.

Garrett: Yes, I checked.

Spider: I wouldn't trust my iPad to a suction mount, but in any case I live in a place with very cold climates that make suction cups fail all the time. It would also look one hell of a lot uglier (the way I envision it) when the ipad is not there. Anyone else have any ideas though?

not my cup of tea.

but certainly a nice way of ruining the finish of a part that is not replaceable without salvaging it from another car or buying a $900 module.

If you include replacing the cassette portion, add another 1k.

There has to be a less permanent solution to this.

a quick google reveals this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3kRdYG9IXo

iPad2 would work better because it's smaller right? I wish I had the skills to do this, I think it would be really bad ass if this could be pulled off on a TL. There is a member of this forum that has done it on his 2G CL. I will try and find the link.

Here it is: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=807737&page=2

What I think would look good would be that the top screen be moved down, the buttons relocated as well, possibly somewhere around the shifter, and then the iPad in the place of the radio screen and buttons, that can slide out towards the passanger side. That way you still have the full functionality of radio, screen doesn't look like shit with the radio stuff missing, you can use the ipad as a navi if necessary and you can watch videos and do what ever else you want on an ipad.

This is wrong on so many levels. It looks like a couple of coat hooks for dolls are on the console.

Wat about using velcro? Velcro would have been much nicer to look at then screws. It wouldn't be permanent either.

So you wanted it to be completely reversible but you put screws into your radio?

So aside from the ghetto install, what's up with the displays? Never seen a climate control/radio display like that.

I'm trying to get an iPad installed in my RDX, but not trying to go this route. Has anyone had any luck with the Padholdr mounts? I see they make vehicle specific dash mounts for all of the Acura's. http://padholdr.com/collections/acura-dash-mounts

The bracket mounts to the side of the radio then the holder attaches to it. I'm going for function, and not having to do a custom install.
