Subwoofer install caused Nav to break?
Subwoofer install caused Nav to break?
My buddy has an identical car to mine, 06 TL with the nav. He put in 2 subs not too long ago and after playing it (loud) for a week or so, it destroyed his nav. The screen went blank and stopped working. Acura told him that his subs basically scrambled the module in the trunk. Is there anyway around this? Can you move the nav without it being really expensive? Or maybe his was faulty? Please help, I really want some subs
its an almost 10 year old car.
Electronics are going to break .
especially since the dvd drive in the trunk is known to go out.
and since it's not an Acura part, it's an Alpine part....Acura will not warranty it.
you have to go to the source. Call alpine.
its a 368 dollar refurb service to get your unit refurbished.

I never really use my nav anyways, I dont like the light it gives off, but my mom passed her car down to me so im not complaining. love the car. I just really want to install subs without it tearing up the nav. I dont want a car with a nav doesnt work haha. Does anyone know about moving it?

moving it is going to be a PITB since there are 2-3 wire harnesses that plug into the back with over 40+ wires total. You'd have to extend them and worry about electrical interference.
The drives are fairly strong but after 10 years of wear and tear plus some loud subs, something is bound to break.
You can send the drive to alpine and they will repair it for around $400. Also have your buddy check the connections to the back of the drive and make sure they are good.
Also unplug the battery for an hour and plug it back and see if it helps

I have an '04 w/ nav and installed a single 15" and have yet to have a problem with the nav. It is obviously plenty loud. So, I would say the nav going out doesn't have to do with the sub. I've had it in installed for over a month now too.
I have an '06 w/nav and my nav stopped working months ago. It will only work correctly when the key is on ACC and never works when the car is actually running. Acura told me it could be a faulty unit. Since then, I have installed dual 12" subs and called it a day.
I can absolutely see the subs causing the disc unit in the trunk to crap out. IMO the vibration the subs could cause is much different and more intense then the spectrum of vibration the unit was designed to operate in. Just because it may not be a common thing with those that have subs and nav does not mean it can't happen.
