Starting my 06 TL active setup install

Slowly but surely I am starting my install for my TL. I have found MANY threads here to be very helpful so far. I was going to post some pics along the way but I would just be reposting many of the same pics found here> https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/diy-aftermarket-amp-install-speaker-install-audiocontrol-matrix-install-w-pics-580314/
But I will post pics of my amp, sub, and speaker install as I go.

I will be using:

Rockford 3sixty.2 interface
JL HD900/5 amp
Tweeters: either MB quart Q tweets or Diamond Audio Hex tweets (untill I get some new ones to pair better)
Mids: Seas w16nx (I love these suckers, going to take some fabricating to get them in the doors so I will take pics along the way)
Sub: Stereo Integrity BM MKIII (these are incredible shallow mount subs. Extreme SQ!!!! )

I have already installed my Optima yellow top and ran the power wire, speaker wires (not using oem wiring), and RCA's.

This will also by my first attempt at a real custom amp rack/sub box. I have built many boxes, just haven't gotten into the custom amp racks yet. This should be fun.

I will also be adding a new center channel speaker and rear speakers after I complete the first half of this adventure. I am trying to keep the 5.1 as well.

Have you looked at the Bitone as another option?

Once you've actually listen to a system running an active stage, you'll find its truly a waist of time keeping the center channel & rear's, my initial plan was to keep them, but now I have no interest, its really pointless, unless naturally you feel the urge to keep the car the same. You'll find its better to ward off this urge and go into the light. That was my inclination and found it totally unnecessary. I have a totally active front stage 3 way running off 2 amps, And tuning was no easy task with Zapco DC amps.(same may think its just button pushing, but to get all 6 speakers in correct phase and alignment with 2 amps isn't easy and then you have the levels to deal with,) My next step is to put in a bit.one, So tuning will be user. Once you go active you'll find your self tuning weekly or more, If that's something you don't have the time for, then don't go active. Your choice to use the RF is one I'd suggest you to rethink. The w16 is a nice driver and will fit without to much alteration, again maybe a little small, W18NX maybe better, your venture is going to find you stuck in phase, alignment, C/O points, and then a little EQ in bands to adjust the Q and gain, many hours of work to get totally correct.

RF is a plug play set it forget it, but you need 2 to do it right

I agree with xxx_busa.

Active is a good first step (something I am going to change to very soon).

xxx_busa,
I want those twin 15 subs and that rane processor that kid had in the trunk of his TL last weekend. LOL

I agree with xxxbusa too. I'm waiting to go active as well I have an AudioControl DQX, just waiting on a DDC controller. I was going to use my rear speaker for fill, but instead I'm just going to use my powerful front stage set up actively. Imaging is so much better that way. People advised me of it but I insisted I needed it. Turns out it really does sound that much better without the rear speakers pulling the image behind me. Save the surround sound for the DVD-A's and home listening. Listen to a good CD with some acoutical instruments with the fader on 8 to keep the sub playing. You'll notice the difference, I swear.

I just put in my Morel Ultimo 12. What a great sub. Now I see what all the hype is about. It hits so fast, what a clean and musical sub bass sound.

cjj2d,

The next time I am up for the MECA show at Lanes, Trains and Automobiles in Murf. you will have to stop by. I am running a two way active in my 05 TL. It will change your mind about the 5.1.

I suggest the Seas Nextels. Used them for 2 years.

Kirk

Thanks for all the input guys! I am familiar with running active. I will not say I am a pro at dialing it in perfectly yet, but not new to it. my last setup was:

Alpine 9855 (active)
Seas w16nx mids
DA Hex tweets
Stereo Integrity Mag D2 sub (that sucker is awesome!)
PPI PC2100 on tweets
PPI PC2150 on mids
PPI PC2350 on sub

This setup was quite impressive, but just dont want to use up all the room like I did in my altima for a big box and 3 big amps.

I will most likely stick to a 2way front active setup for now, until I build some kickpanels and go 3 way up front.

I am anxious to get a pair of Stereo Integrity BM subs in this sucker!!! check them out >>> www.stereointegrity.com
