speakers don't work
speakers don't work
my speakers don't work after installing an aftermarket headunit. i tried just a home speaker to my unit and that one worked but none of them in the car work.
what am i doing wrong here? all the connections were made properly with the connector that goes into the back of the old stock radio, but still no sound.
please help!!

thanks for the replies guys. i've done stereo installs before but it's been a few years and i guess i've never done one one a car with an amp.
anyway, here's some details.
i did the install myself. i didn't know about the amp as i thought it was built into the headunit, so yes i did retain the stock amp. i had the wiring diagrams from this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=harness
i would like to keep the stock speakers as well. the only thing i wanted to change was the radio. i bought a jensen vm9022hd. i know it's not a very nice unit but it's all i can afford and it has all the functions that i want. i was also wondering if i can keep the sub and center speaker still functional. i don't mind cutting into the existing wires if needed.
also i used the wiring harness from walmart which essentially gives you the 20pin connector A connections which looks like it has front and rear speakers and all the power etc, but no sub or center channel.
any help on getting around the amp would be great. i have done my best to search for similar problems or answers on the forum but i don't know exactly what to search for.

I used to install for a while. I'm actually MECP certified.
More than likely its the stock amp thats causing the problem. I have personally never done an install on a 3rd gen TL but when it comes to those sound systems they all are close to the same.
Your problem more than likely is with the stock amp not turning on. In some case you need to use your remote wire off the back of the aftermarket headunit to power on the amp. Usually the amp turn on wire is blue/white. That would be connected to the power wire for your stock amp. Off the top of my head I am not too sure what color that would be. I used to have access to DirecTechs for wire info but I have no clue what my password is any more.
The second solution would be to do a rewire. Basically bypassing the stock amp by running new speak wire from the plug going into the amp and run it straight to the new radio.
This is just from experience of working on lots of Mercedes, BMWs and basically anything with an upgraded factory sound system (Infinity, Bose, Harmon Kardon).

thanks rabbot. if you noticed in one of the replies i posted in this thread have a link to the wiring diagrams i used. if you could look at those and see if the wiring you're suggesting would work, i would appreciate that a lot.

you need to tap into that wire. Like I stated before, Blue/White on your after market radio harness should be labeled"Amp Turn On" or "Remote turn on". If you don't have that wire you can simply take spare wire and tap into your ACC or IGN wire.
That should effectively turn on the factory amp whenever the car is turned on and you should be good to go. Let me know how it turns out.
