Speaker Wires Through Front Doors?

I am reluctant to use the factory wiring going to the front doors from my amp output. I will be putting 150w each through these channels and I want to upgrade the speaker wires to AWG 14. Can you guys suggest a way to run new speaker wires to the front door speakers?

Thanks.

You'll have to do some drilling to get the wires in there. I used the facory wiring but I am not pushing 150W either.

One of the guys here has a thread showing how he ran his. He drilled a hole alongside the factory plug at the door

Thanks Stew. I found this pic from jptl04's install, but the thought of the speaker wire exposed like that isn't very comforting...

Did anyone else run new speaker wire to their door speakers instead of using the factory wiring? Man I'd hate to use that crappy 25-30w wire for my 120w Polk Momos.

ehh i dunno im pushing 200 watts on each line and the cables seem to hold up to the extreme. i refuse to make holes in places like that, id rather rewire the whole harness than tap holes that rust

That is a horrible way to run wires. Make your life easy. Run the wires to the inside of the panel on the inside of the car. Then clip one of the speaker wires in the door and attach a string to it. From the inside of the car pull out the clipped speaker wire. You will now have a pull string from the inside of the kick panel thru the factory rubber harness to be able to pull the new speaker wires thru. Easy as that. Remember to tape up the cliped wire on the inside of the car. Always disconnect battery before clipping wires so you dont ground anything out.

it doesnt work like that..... the wires are loose on the inside of the rubber sleeve but when it hits the door it goes into a harness.

Trip, after hearing this from you, i feel a bit more comfortable about it. I'm sure if there were something to worry about you would have gone a different route for your install. Do you think i'm off base thinking the stock wires are too thin?

I put in 12 awg speaker wires thru the factory loom on both front door... it took me about 1 hour per door... Major PITA...

Remove door panel and factory speaker and unclip the harness from inside the door... there are pins unused in the harness... just drill them out to make room... then slide your new speaker wires though there... then go ahead and scrape all the skin off your hands trying to pull the wires from behind the fuse box...

Good Luck...

Rodney,

after doing all that, do you think it was worth it instead of just using the factory wires? Would you recommend I do it? My thoughts are... if it will make a difference, I'll definitely consider going through the trouble. After all, i'm killing myself trying to do a professional install on an upgraded system when my car came with a complete surround sound audio system!

Thanks for your input!

I agree with others that it's a pain in the ass... I used a coat hanger, gorilla tape/duct tape and WD40 to snake 12g wiring through. It's worth doing it right the first time.

I ended up using the factory wires. There is absolutely no disappointment with the front sound stage. I couldn't ask for more. Sounds fantastic!

Thanks for the input guys.
