Setting up phone
Setting up phone
I just bought the car and I am trying to set up the phone. In the manual it says press the HFL button to get started etc...but no voice set up command comes on when I press and release the button as instructed....help!!!
Moved over to the 3rd Gen section.
Sounds like the HFL (HandsFreeLink) is dead. I wouldn't recommend replacing it as if you do a search on here, you'll see that it's a very common failure component and doesn't work all that well at all. It will eventually drain your battery as well. I'd look into a bluetooth module connected to your Aux port for calls/music streaming instead.

next question, providing there is an aux port somewhere, being that it is not on the stereo, would something like this work?
The thing you linked would probably work, but I would pick something different, without the battery.
Since aux port is right next to the cigarette lighter, you can just plug in charger and power it that way.
Some people, including me, were / are using this one:
If you place it next to the steering wheel area, it will pick up your voice for calls, it has a button to receive / end calls and long hold to turn on voice assistant.
There is also stuff like iSimple or https://www.usaspec.com/p-315-bt45-hon3.aspx
They plug into the radio / xm receiver and provide better experience than those plugged into aux. But are more expensive and require more work.

Thanks guys! I want to slap the engineer who suggested putting the aux port at the bottom of the center console. Why anyone would want it there is beyond me. I think the one you suggested would be way easier being that I would have to probably open the console and reach down in there to punch a button to answer the phone (I do not consider that very hands free) $35 is most likely way cheaper than taking it to the Acura dealer and fixing the HFL button on the steering wheel. .
