Win Ce Apps

here is an interesting thought. if anyone can write or find a win ce app or modify one. could we test to see if the navi will run it if it matches exactly the size of the calender, or trip, etc executables. any app would suffice just to prove that the navi is capable of more. i know this entails more than just finding/modifying an app; recompiling the bin file; and loading it. it seems like a resonable start.

ps. is the card slot pcmcia? if it were then what is it used for? does the nav system access it on boot up? if so we could use a pcmcia flash card reader as a storage media to store the temporary/modified bins instead of having to burn new discs everytime a change is tried.

also, has anyone tried to run the extracted executables on a winCE device like a modded dreamcast since that seems to have almost the same hardware.

this is my first post after being a member for awhile and have learned tons from this place. keep up the good work.

Exclamation Enabling TripComputer on the TL natively

I have enabled TripComputer on the TL natively. It is fairly simple and only requires a minor modification of HMIManager.exe file. I'll post the patch later. There are other hidden items in the Info menu. The complete list is:

Trip Computer
Voice Command Help
Calendar
Calculator
US -> Canada
SRAM Clear
Diag
Program load
Force reset

The last 5 items you probably don't want to enable. They are accessible from the diagnostic menu anyway.

The legal disclaimer screen is harder to get rid of, but not impossible. I am not quite annoyed by it, but I'll take a look...

P.S.: Those loading TSX software to get trip computer on the TL, what are you people smoking?

Ooo, here's hoping you can do something about the OK button. Maybe we have another byson on our hands.

angrydad,
Would you be willing to share how you enabled these items in the info menu?
I'm assuming used a hex editor or something to modify some parts in the HMIManager.exe file and then recompiled.

Because you were able to do this, I'm guessing you have some sort of computer science/ engineering background. Do you think what MpegtwoTL suggested would work? Like replacing one of the stock exe files with a similarly sized WinCE app.
I think it'd be great to be able to access the underlying OS.
Good luck.

The patch is posted here

I have no idea what MpegtwoTL suggested... The WinCE in navi is stripped down. It is also compiled for SH-4 processor, so whatever he suggested is unlikely going to work.
