Replacing factory door speakers

I wanted to replace my original speakers because even at max volume, I’m still not able to hear much and is very low and wanted to put in some JBL 6.5” speakers. However I read on another site (Crutchfield) that they probably won’t fit or is going to be really difficult to put in and I just wanted to see if this is true or not before I order the speakers.

I believe the spacer will be an issue.

And, if you're at max volume and can't hear, something is either wrong with the speakers, amp, or your ears. I can't go higher than about 9 on my 08 TL-S because then I'd be deaf.

Your amp is probably the issue. There's a big thread on it that you should look into.

I have an 04 TL, and I can have my volume turned up ALL the way and can barely hear the music A couple feet outside of the car with the windows rolled down. I’ve already replaced the front dash tweeters and door speakers, and geez what A difference it already is. My Amp,Speakers, and subwoofer are all in working order as well.

Im actually debating on whether or not to add another set of component speakers to the two rear doors. But if I do that I’m gonna wanna replace the stock oem amp and run A 2nd 4channel amp in order to power everything..

PS- 6.5s will work, look for A shallow set and/or just cut the white oem bracket to fit the new speakers. I just drilled new holes into the metal and made A small wooden ring to support the speakers and in order to not have metal on metal(vibration).

Yeah I have a 04 TL A-Spec as well, so just to make sure buying the 6.5”s speakers should be no problem and I should go right ahead?

Yeah, obviously it’s my speakers/amp which is why I want to replace it. My max volume is 40 and at that even my phone speakers are louder than that.

Could you link me to the thread about the issue with the amp?
