Angry Replacement Blackjack won't Auto-Connect

My original Samsung Blackjack popped its little biscuit, so AT&T sent me a replacement under warranty. I've deleted the old one from my TL's HFL list and added the new one just as I've always added phones. It works just fine after I pair it up. However, each time I get back in the car, I have to go through the menus on the Blackjack to force it to "Connect" to my HFL. This is a real PITA and it's the first time I've had to do that with any bluetooth phone in my car. Hopefully, it's not a new "feature" of the phone's updated firmware.

- I've tried leaving the phone discoverable, though I've never needed to do that before. didn't help.
- I've done a full reset on the phone and re-paired it. Still doesn't work.
- I've gone through all the settings to see if there is some kind of "auto connect" option to no avail. There is an option for "Auto Connection Popup," but that doesn't seem to do anything.

I cannot figure out what to try next. It sucks trying to make or take a call and hear the message "No phones have been found." Grrr...

Does anyone have a suggestion?

it might be a software update that needs to be applied for the blackjack, some phones require this.

Seems more like a setting on the phone to me. Try checking the Handsfree profile settings on your phone for "auto connect" or something similar.

That's the thing...This new Blackjack has the latest firmware, whereas my old one didn't. I hadn't done any updates as it was working just fine (until it died, that is).

I went through this a half dozen times. Here's what you do:

Go into the configuration of the phone, and change the name that the bluetooth configuration advertises. Once you do that, you will be able to re-pair the phone.

Otherwise, you need to reset your HFL, which will clear out any phone numbers stored as well.

Good luck!

Steve

I did change the name of the phone before I paired it with my computer and HFL and I deleted the old one from the HFL in the car. Here's another strange symptom, though: It worked fine this morning when I got in the car to come to work. Maybe it's fine now. We'll see when I leave to go home.

Thanks for the reply. If I still have problems, I'll try your suggestions.

I just bought a Samsung BJ today and it pairs up with HFL but the antenna icon on the stereo shows there is no signal even though there is one on the phone.

Any suggestions?

According to handsfreelink.com the blackjack does not support signal strength and battery strength. They list the blackjack compatibility as "failed"
