Renew XM Radio for $77 for 12 months (Part 2)
#321
I bought my car 1 yr old, does this apply to me or not? Sorry, I've searched through about 5 pages, and it seems to me that you can only renew with the 77 deal if you bought your car "new". Any clarifications would be great.
I would like to have XM satellite, help please!

When I called, the guy took my radio code, looked up my account and had me confirm my name and address. Do you happen to know if the car's previous owner ever had an XM subscription? Because if they did, they would've used the same radio code. What you could do is, when they ask you to confirm, you can tell them there's been a change in your info, but I'm not sure if they'll buy it... address change, maybe; name change, maybe not.
Couldn't hurt to try, though. And I guess if that doesn't work, you can sign up for a month or so at the normal rate, cancel & get the rest of your money back, then wait a week and renew it at the discount rate. Either way, good luck!

No, the car used to be a loaner before I bought it, so no deal there.
That's what I was worried about, they would ask me for my radio code, name and address and there is nothing that would show up.....
Any other way to go about it?
Thanks,
Steph

Cara Chica:
The dealer has a master free account that is usually cancelled when the car is sold. The purchaser is then (normally) entitled to a 3 month free trial.
I would call and ask if you can get a free trial for 3 months. Tell them you just bought the car. Have your radio code handy when you call.
I have never heard of them saying "No" to that.
Don't give them any Credit Card info or they will bill your card for the full boat after three months. Or, if you have to, then physically call up and cancel at the end of the three months.
Once cancelled, they will have you in the system and you can call them and do the deed as described above.
The purpose of the "zwinback" promotion is to Win Back old customers who cancelled.
Good luck.

Welcome to Acurazine and the 3G TL forum. The $60 deal went down in 2004 for the first year after the three month trial. Then, it went to $77 deal the second year.
Now, we have a few people who have gotten the 2nd $77 deal. Some states have tax added and some don't.
FL does.

Called today was immediatley asked for my radio code so I got nervous as I had no time for the script. She asked how she could help me and I read the script listed on this thread. She asked what the flyer said and I made something up like "We noticed you just purchased a new Acura TL with XM Radio and would like to give you the opportunity for a special offer of $77 for 1 year" yadda yadda. NOTE: make sure they KEEP your 3 month promo as well or they will take it off.
After 4 minutes, we were done......$77 for 1 year of service! Thanks to all for the great discussion. Learning a lot. Now if I can only figure out how to rip mp3's onto a DVD so I can play them in my car I will be golden!

Next, customer service rep #2
#343
I just tried again today for the 4th time. No go!
They have it recorded in their database that I already took advantage of the $77 offer last year.
For those who have been able to take advantage of the $77 offer for a second time, consider yourself lucky... last years customer service rep did not record that information in your customer record.

Got mine yesterday. Called the number and told the rep that that they have been calling me trying to get me to come back, and that I was finally ready to start my service again, he asked me what promotion they were offering me, then BAM, I hit him with the "why, the zwinback promotion for $77, of course", worked with no problems. I know I deviated from the script, but that's how I roll, I march to the beat of a different drum...j/k, I just forgot and went with what came to mind, and it worked. I got it for $77 flat, no taxes.

Just a little math. If this is your only XM subscription, then yes by all means get the $77 "zwinback" offer, but if you have XM either in another vehicle or a portable XM, it's only saves you $6.88 over the XM family plan of $6.99 a month (zwinback figures out to $6.41 per month).
So for those who have XM in another vehicle or a portable XM, don't stress whether or not you'll be able to get the "zwinback" offer. But then again, $6.88 is $6.88....

Talk about not using the script
I called the regular (800-XMRADIO) number. Told the woman that answered that I got a letter awhile ago but threw it out. Now I wanted to take them up on the $77 offer. She put me on hold for a few minutes. She then came back and said she'd have to put me on hold for a few more minutes. Finally she came back and she was ready to do it. But she wanted to charge me a $14.95 activation fee. I told her the letter didn't mention that and she very quickly agreed to drop that charge. Total time about 10 minutes with no mention of an offer code at all.

Thank you Acurazine! I just followed the script and I renewed my XM Subscription for $77! Woooo Hooooo! I love XM, Acurazine, and my TL! The girl did not even ask for the "zwinback" code. Oh, the number I called was 1-800-682-4114.
#356
Yup just got off the phone with XM.....told them that my Acura dealer mentioned about the promotion for a full year and the XM dude said "would that be the 1 year promo for $77"? and I answered yes and to sign me up....gave him my credit card number and was done in 7 minutes. Thanks all for your input/feedback here in the forum.
