Nice! I just got a V-1 and hardwired it. Actually, I didn't really hardwire it, it's completely temporarly. What I ended up doing was running the wire down the A-pillar (you can easily pop that cover off using the airbag access clip) behind the side of the dash, and then I just plugged the hot wire into fuse 24 (rear window motors) and attached the ground to the truck release latch. It works perfectly, looks great, and I can easily disable the detector in a pinch with the window locks.

sorry to mini thread jack, but do you think this mirror mount would work with a beltronics radar? i hardwired mine but am just using suction cups to the left of the rear view mirror...mirror mount would be so much better.

Use this DIY to make your own mirror mount for $5.

I am going make mine tomorrow. Will keep you updated! I have a Beltronics V955 and a Escort 8500.

i put up some pics in the thread above, quick summary here, did a DIY mirror mount for just under $5, needs some black paint and some minor adjustments but was pretty impressed with how it holds up on the test drive

This is how I recommend to have it installed... Not really digging the mirror mounts. Makes the mirror look too 'busy' with the wires and radar detector hanging from it. Plus I don't like the fact that cars and other people outside of your vehicle can clearly see it. Especially at night.

You can barely see mine from outside the car. And u run a v1 so it has no lights on it at all so no one would see it at night time. Suction cups suck ass. I used the visor clip before I got the mount

I can still see the V1 hanging from your rear view mirror including the wiring even though 1. Picture quality isn't good. 2. Looks like picture was taken when there isn't much sun out. If I can easily see the V1 despite these conditions, I'm sure it's even more blatantly obvious IN PERSON.. Especially when the sun is still out.

Take a picture when it's 3PM and post it. I'll take one and we'll see who can see whose radar detector easiest. The only reason you would know I have one is either you've sat in my car before, or I told you about it. Other than that, you wouldn't even think I have one.

I don't know what you mean by suction cups suck ass, you must have been using some worn suction cups because I've had mines mounted in the same spot over over 1 year and it has never fell off or come loose on me.

As for other people seeing it, I was talking about when you drive around at night and it goes off and starts blinking red (signal bar, and radar/laser signal detected). When you have it mounted below your rear view and driving through a city, cars beside and behind you can clearly see there is something red going off below your rear view mirror.

It's not illegal to own a radar detector in TX, but I would not feel comfortable if a cop just happened to pull up behind me or next to me at a red light and my valentine starts lighting up. Even muting it doesn't turn the lights off, your only option is to turn it off and back on when he leaves.

All I'm saying is that if you put it on the AS1 line, no one will ever notice it even if they stand at the driver side wheel. Much less obvious and will attract less attention for thieves that are walking by cars trying to look for stuff to steal that are in plain sight. A radar detector hanging from the rear view is there for everyone to see...

first i said barely visible, not invisible. i have a v1 w/ concealed display (this means the unit is in dark mode and does not have a single light on i, therefor no one sees it)
also for best detection it is best to have in the center of windshield. laser is aimed low (headlight/ grill area) and radar you want paralle to a cruisers radar if possible. i had problems with suction cups mainly when cold and the unit would fall while parked and just hang there. i clean my windshield every two weeks when my car is cleaned so therefore i dont have to pull it off the winshield to clean. i am not saying your idea is not a good one or logical for many people. i had my x50 mounted there for the past 2 years until i bought my v1 and this mount. every time i have been pulled over i take my radar down as i am pulling over and buckeling my seat belt, so the officer doesnt see it in the first place.
