DIY Radar Detector Mount
I came across this on the TSX forums and the orignal thread was on Planet-9 forum.
I recently got my windshield tinted, I don't want to mount the radar on the windshield but I want to put it under the mirror. I am not paying $80 for a stupid mount, so this DIY solution seems great.
Maybe some of you guys are also interested in it?
All credit goes to the planet-9 guy. http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...rt-9500ix.html

I forgot Acurazine has beef with . Just put before the .com and after the www.

I cant have it that high. I have 35% windshield tint, 5% visor and factory tint is also still there. Meaning, I might as well chuck out the radar lol.
It's funny because Acurazine blocks out the site name you're trying to say.
You have to be smart when trying to link...
Instead of saying C L U B R S X (it won't show up if I write without the spaces), I say something like CRSX and when I mention acurazine on other forums, I just say AZ.

It was T-S-X-C-L-U-B. I found a better DIY. Why does AZ block CRSX or TSXC? Just wondering lol. Are our mods communists!? LOL

i did a DIY mirror mount tonight...came out to $4.99 exactly just under $5 and most of that was for a packet of 4 brackets when i only needed 1. i'll post pics tomorrow in the day time, i eventually want to paint everything silver to black to blend in more. no noticeable vibration on my test drive but i need to find a piece of rubber for better friction to clamp onto the mirror stem. OP let me know if you give it a try!

IMO, the radar is too low, in the way, and visible to everyone with the mounts.
i have my V1 mounted with the suction cups in this position with no issues and is pretty much hidden from view

i then have this mounted on the dash

then this button to the right of the seat warmers for muting the V1

i haven't figured out if i like the mirror mount option or not yet, gonna run it for a bit and see what happens. i usually run it with suction cups to the left of the mirror and it works well, just sometimes hard to get the suction cups to stick. either way this mirror mount is a $5 trial run
this is how i mute mine, it was tough to fit just right but it looks almost stock the way it sits and lights up. also hardwired into the car and with the window lock option for power

I would like to thank Sockr1 who helped me with getting the parts needed to do this DIY and answered all my questions.
The TL mirror is not suitable for this mount, I tried everything and the radar moves around like crazy.

few things i noticed...when the L bracket connects to the radar clip...put the bolt as close to the middle as possible that way you reduce the amount of side to side lean.
where the clamp meets the mirror stem...make it more horizontal and jam it between the vertical and horizontal mirror stem. see my pic above for reference.
a final thing you can try is to move the bracket higher so that you can use 2 bolts on the bicycle clamp rather than the one.
on your first pic, bottom bolt, does that hole have "teeth" that prevent the piece from rotating? mine does and that helps the bottom bolt from becoming loose.
when i installed mine, it has no side to side lean, is perfectly flat and doesn't move. i was looking for some rubber for the clamp so it stays perfectly flat front to back and doesn't have a slight tilt down. it's frustrating but possible to come out very sturdy this way

i have my V1 mounted on the upper right hand side of the rearview mirror. i have the concealed display mounted in the dash and everything wired up to the window lock switch so i can turn it on and off with the push of a button.

^^^^ I like that setup a lot. I miss my Escort SRX cause it was bumper mounted, I cant have anything in the windshield cause you cant have radar detectors on a military base. Im gonna get a V1 with the concealed display eventually cause I cant afford another SRX (oh yeah and they dont make em anymore)
i have mine mounted above the mirror with suction cups and i have 20% tint and have no problems with detection..picks up everything and i only have a cobra..one of the cheaper ones...i then have the cord going into the roof and down the side pillar...under the dash..then under the center console to the back plug...wire is totally hidden
the best spot to put a radar in my opinion is your upper left hand corner of the windshield(based from the inside). to me its a lot cleaner and shows no wires whatsoever. its not visible from the outside and when people are inside, they still dont have a clue where that sound is coming from. i never have to turn the radar on or off. from time to time it does fall from the windshield but thats the only problem that i have... its that my suction cup is old and im lazy to replace it. i tried posting pics but i'm having a hard time with it... any help i be more then happy to post and show you.
