Options for Factory Navi Replacement

Did some searching but didn't find exactly what I was looking for so I figured I would start a new thread. My TL is my daily driver and I wanted to so something in the sound dept. to make the daily commute a bit more tolerable.

My scenario:
  • The DVD navi unit in the trunk stopped working several months ago and even though I took it out and cleaned the drive and updated the maps disk, it still does not work. I'm not shipping it to Alpine since the $300 repair fee would be better going towards an upgrade. Whatever solution I decide on, I would like the aftermarket unit replace the navigation screen.
  • Because of battery draining issues, I've already removed the factory Bluetooth module so factory voice command is not a concern.
  • Steering wheel controls would be nice but certainly not a "deal breaker" if I lose them with the upgrade.
  • I'm having volume issues which leads me to suspect that my factory amp might be on its way out as well. With the research I've done,I understand that you lose subwoofer and center speaker with any upgrade so I would need to look into a separate sub maybe later down the road.
All the threads I've seen are mainly for upgrading non-navi units and was hoping someone had input on replacing the navi unit with something else. I'm currently monitoring the thread for the 10inch Android 8.1 system but at $600, that is more than I wanted to pay for just the head unit and there are guys still trying to work out the bugs with that system. I was hoping more along the lines of this in the place where the current navi screen is.

Shortly after I got the car several years ago, I installed a SirrusXM emulator for my iPod so I have taken the head unit out before and I'm decent enough with a ratchet(most days, lol). With everything mentioned above, what solution would you guys suggest I consider?
