Exclamation OK, Problem with Passport 8500

Well, Here's a new one!

I have an 8500 that has been hardwired since I bought the car in late september. I know it needs to go in for service soon since none of the buttons on it work anymore, but recently I noticed about 2 or 3 times a day when I got WOT through 1st and 2nd gear, the thing goes ape on LASER and there wont be a cop in sight for miles. Even a couple of times it did it at a WOT in 3rd gear.

I'm so confused... I dont know if its the cold weather, something interfereing, or it just needs some major TLC from escort!

Any help would be appreciated!

Move it around on your dash. The navi screen will set off the laser alert. It could also be that there is a FX35 or some other Infiniti driving by you with their laser cruise control/brake assist system. Those set off the laser.

thanks for the responses guys.

I know there are no infiniti's driving around because I have looked for that. I've had it in the same spot since I bought the car and it's just happening recently, so I dont know that moving it around will help, but I'll give it a shot!

I have the same problem with my 8500 x50. Mine falses laser alert all the time. (scares the hell out of me when it happens) It's done it when I've accelerated, turned on the windshield wipers, honked the horn, you name it. I called Escort and the thing is getting out of wack and needs to be sent in for service. It's a common problem with the 8500s. It's around $50-$80 to get it recalibrated since mine is out of warranty. Some days it's ok but other days I have to turn it off cause it falses so much.

My 8500 used to false laser in my TL. It took 6 months for it to start. I put the 8500 in my wife's Camry and bought an 8500-X50, blue of course. The -X50 has been in the TL for a year and a half and just started falsing when I hit the horn. Escort doesn't want to know me because I bought it off Ebay and not from one of their "authorized dealers". The 8500 was fine in the wife's Camry. Then she got the TSX. Six months into the TSX, it started to false laser there too. Neither car has navi. Something about Escorts and Acura's?

Pretty good. Work has been busy. I have put about 10k miles on the M3. I am now on the board of the Badger Bimmers. I need to figure out what I am going to do for a track car this year. I would use the M3, but I need a harness bar and I want to find one that will let me use the back seat, which probably doesn't exist.

really? Now thats a wierd one! A bad battery caused your 8500 to signal a full out laser warning at random times?
