No subwoofer, what to add?

The original owner of my 2006 TL did not care for music, so he didn't purchase the subwoofer. I pulled back the trunk liner on the right side and I didn't find an amp or any other wiring near that corner.

I would like to add a subwoofer to the rear deck. What do I need to plan to purchase to do this?

Thanks (BTW, for those that would suggest that I put a box in the trunk, I'm sticking with the speaker in the rear deck plan.)

The amp is in the passenger kick panel, not the trunk.

also, the els audio system and the rear sub was standard equipment. are you saying the owner removed the rear center speaker completely?

Thanks for the tip about the amp. When I go into Audio setup, the subwoofer option is grayed-out. That's why I assume that I don't have one.

An easy check will be to pull the trunk liner down an inch or two to see if your sub is there. I'll bet it's in there. If not, you can get an OEM sub for cheap here on the BM or even through Acura it's not a huge expense.

I don't suggest getting an aftermarket sub for that space, because it would have to be an open air 2ohm sub, which only a couple of manufacturers make. The OEM is built to fit into your current wiring. Anything more powerful than OEM will also rattle the heck out of your deck.

the only time I ever see the sub option go away is when I have the fader faded all the way to front. When I fade to the front, the sub shows as off.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look and let you know what I find. I hope that it's a sub.

Duh! I looked again at the onscreen control for the sub. I thought that it was grayed out but that's just its look. I was able to select it and push the control over to the right for maximum output of the sub. I had it the whole time without knowing it. No flames please.

No judgement here.... Happy you have a subwoofer already installed. Your music will sound much more balanced now!

Wait, how long have you had the car???

Ha, well I'm glad you sorted this out. This ranks up there with the guy who thought he had the 5MT (not 6MT) TL because the prior owner swapped out the shift knob.

I've had the car a year and a half. Somewhere along the line, I saw that dimmed sub control and thought that I didn't have one. I recently ordered one of the iSimple units (iSimple ISHD571) so that I can hook up my Android phone to my car's stock stereo. I plan to put a 3.5mm jack in the deep well under the armrest and plug my phone in there.

So are you ok with the stock sub's output or are you still thinking about adding an aftermarket sub?

Now that I "found" my sub, I'm good with it. Maybe somewhere down the road I'll think about upgrading it, but I don't want to give up any of my trunk space for a box. With a wife and two kids, the trunk gets full quite often.
