No HFL after replacing battery

My battery died last week on my 06 TL (non-NAV) and now that it is replaced, the HFL doesn't seem to work. Nothing happens when I press either of the HFL buttons (no beep, nothing on the screen, nothing at all) and the little phone on the radio isn't showing up. I entered the radio code after battery replacement and the radio seems to work fine (haven't driven much since then).
The HFL worked fine prior to the dead battery aside from regular bluetooth dropouts on my phone. I must be missing something simple but a search isn't turning up the right fix.

Thanks, Jon

Oddly enough, the handsfree link started up about 40 minutes into a drive and then worked for the next short drive. The next few days, it reverted back to being non-functional.
Any ideas

HFL seems completely dead 90%+ of the time but will occasionally become live on longer drives. This started with a battery replacement. Any ideas? Not having HFL is quite frustrating.
Thanks, Jon

It sounds like the HFL is bad.
Check the MID for the HFL status when you have driven a few minutes-- if the MID says the HFL is "Booting Up," the HFL has gone bad.
If the MID doesn't show "Booting Up," or shows reception bars, then the issue is more likely the phone.

You have a couple of options if the HFL is defective-- a) buy and install a new HFL (@$160 for the module, about 10 minutes of labor time for a total novice), or b) remove the HFL, disassemble it and bake the circuit board(s) in an oven for 9 minutes @ 385*F to see if that fixes the issue.

There is a long HFL thread that describes removal, replacement and baking, and a couple of shorter ones on baking.

I had the same exact problem with my HFL and opted to replace the unit as mentioned above. It is a very simple DIY that just requires prying, unbolting and unscrewing. The rest is essentially plug-and-play.

It's fairly expensive especially for the lack of AD2P and phone book downloading, but well worth the price if you rely on HFL.

Thanks for the comments above. The MID sometimes says "No information available" and other times shows the "Booting Up" message. Sounds like some portion of the dead battery, jump start, replacement battery blew the HFL.

I'll update the post if/when I fix the issue.
Thanks, Jon
