New VSA switch mod idea

I've ordered the VSA switch from Tim and will be trying out the following mod:

1. Take out the push switch inside the assembly.
2. Modify the housing to hold a rocker switch (on-off-on type).
3. Modify the VSA button so that it can be attached to the rocker switch and will "rock" to activate the switch.
4. Redo the graphics on the VSA to have DVD at the top and Backup Cam logo at bottom.

This will allow me to turn on a DVD player or activate the backup camera on the NAV. The middle position will be off. I did order a second LED to make both areas light up.

Has anyone tried this?

Also I'm going to feel out how I can also keep push button switch functionality if possible. That would allow a rocker for the DVD/Camera and then the button could be pushed in to activate fogs. I won't try this part of the mod yet. I need to see how the rocker switch goes first.

Thought I'd give this one bump as I hadn't gotten any responses. I think I have figured out a way to keep the push button functionality while turning it into a rocker switch as well.

The VSA switch will get here on thursday so hopefully I'll have some time over the weekend to work on it.

What DCC did was to modify the face of the switch to have a DVD logo. However that was basically it. His mod was still a push button. My mod is different. The push button function will be replaced with a toggle function. The face of the VSA will be modified to have both DVD and Rear Camera text or logos. This will allow me to toggle up for dvd, center for off, and down for rear camera.

DCC's thread is what gave me the idea for this mod. It's a different take on it. I have looked into making the VSA mod a 3 way switch. Using both the toggle switch idea while keeping the push button functionality. However I will not be attempting this on the first mod. Also DCC's mod was to take the Accord assembly and put the face of the TL VSA button on it if I remember right. This mod will only use the TL VSA, at least for the Toggle only mod.

Buda,

I think that the only real issue with turning a VSA switch into a rocker/toggle is that the rectangular hole in the dash has a tight fit with the VSA button. I remember back when DCC put that VSA button on the Accord assembly  that there was not much gap between the button and the dash hole.
So I'm guessing that there is not enough room for the button to tilt in the hole unless you countersink the button deep enough.

Maybe someone makes a double pull double throw three position push button switch that you can mod into the VSA switch.

Good luck.

Hey Crook, thanks for the comment. I knew the fitting of the VSA switch into that hole could cause a problem, but I'm hoping to be able to find a way around it. Sinking in the switch some seems to be the easiest way, but I'll have to wait until I get that far. Yes the hardest problems otherwise are finding a rocker or toggle switch that will fit in the rectangular casing, which is quite small. I'm still searching for a proper switch. Then the next problem is how to attach the VSA to the switch and at the same time allow for the LEDs to have room. I have many ideas, I just have to find a workable switch first.

Hey, I like that idea. If I could find such a switch, I'd then need to go with DCC's oringal setup with using the accord housing to hold the push button switch.

I'm also thinking about turning the single VSA push button into 2 push buttons if all else fails. Basically cutting the VSA face across the center and installing 2 push button switches behind it. A lot of options and I have to travel to DC tomorrow so I won't get to work on this till next weekend.

Doesn't Honda already have other switches that fit this same knockout?
My wife's car is a Honda Pilot and the Roof controls appear to be exactly the same size as the VSA switch, but there are three seperate switches.

There also was a lot of discussion early on about the Fog-light switch already being a push button from the Honda Accords. Does any one know what came of this discussion?

^-- The switch the DCC made for the DVD button I believed used the Face of the VSA switch and the back part was from the Accord Fog light switch. I'll have to take a look at that Honda Pilot roof control switch. What year is the Pilot?
