Just installed the new 2012 disk. One of the improvements they claim is in routing. BULLSHIT! The fuckin thing STILL takes me out of the way, around in circles, etc. Doesn't matter whether I set Direct Route, Easy Route, etc.

Those of you familiar with the NYC/NJ area will understand what I mean when coming down the Palisades Pkwy toward the GW Bridge with a destination in New Jersey. The damn thing tells me to get on I95 North, go over the George Washington bridge (huge toll) into NY, get on Riverside Drive, and get back on 95 going South over the GWB to continue on the appropriate NJ highway to get to my destination. This nonsense was the same with the original 2004 disk and the 2010 disk as well.

It's blatantly obvious the navigation system in the '04/5/6 TL was not fully perfected. My DVD unit was reconditioned at Alpine 2 years ago.

The Google navigation system in my Android phone actually works better most of the time.

My 2009 disc works great on the West Coast-- better than our year-old Garmin as far as finding shorter, faster routes.

I sold my 2010 disk on ebay in order to pay for the 2012 disk. Barely cost me anything in the end.

Actually, the 2009 disc did seem to speed up Navi response & search times on my TL, and the routing was improved over my original 2005 disc.

Time for me to get the 2012-- not many toll roads or weird routes here along the L.A. coast to worry about.

Depends how outdated your disk is. I noticed an improvement when I swapped my original disc that came with the car for the 2010 update, including listing things like Home Depot in order of the closest as well as the address of a friend who lives in an exclusive (11 y/o) development out in the Hackettestown area that didn't come up with the old disk. If your disk is the original, it still might not hurt to at least get a later one. You can find 'em on ebaY.

But then again, the 2012 disk still lists a Popeyes Fried Chicken in Norwood that closed almost 4 years ago. So go figure ..........
