Hi all,
just got a black on black TL and lovin it. However Iam a little disappointed in stereo loudness especially w/ windows open at highway speeds. Is there any plug n play amps that could help out?

I guess it depends on what you are used to....but the ELS systems in these cars are supposed to be awesome. My TSX has an inferior system and bone stock it seems pretty decent to me.

Call me crazy but I'll take the system in the 2006 TSX over the the ELS system in my TL any day. Those 6x9's in the tsx have impressive bass for what they are. Sounds way better than the TL system IMO. To the OP, Its not you. Its the system. I was recently quoted a price of over $2500 just to add a real subwoofer with its own amp, put new door speakers and rear speakers in with the amps and processors. You can replace in steps and there are some thread on here about that. I believe infinity makes 2 ohm replacement speakers as thats what the door speakers and rear speakers are.

Infinity and its sister brand JBL are 2ohm. Orion are 3ohm.

$2500!!!!!
why not just buy the parts and install/build yourself???
All speakers, accessories, amps, building material would come out to way less than a grand.

With that being said, I've been meaning to tackle the TL miracle box.

less than a grand? not likely.

Custom box alone would be 150-200

Eggy, as you know you're in the minority.
Most people are not a true audiophile, like yourself.

you quoted me but didn't read me, I stated that I would build a box. Building materials come out to less than $200.
but thanks for playing!

1. Just because i won't put entry level stuff in my car doesn't make me an audiophile

2. Not everyone can build a box.

Thanks for playing.

LOL, good come back...
I say it makes you more of an audiophile than any one else that can't afford premium or can't differentiate between sound stages, as you can.

Most people would not want to spend that 2500 dollars, and I simply gave a cheaper alternative by DIY.
Paying less than a grand is very achievable for the user that just wants a sub, and better speakers, like the OP.

Also you were quoting me, I stated that I have the know how and have the resources to build a box. your 2nd point is invalid.

One more thing, please get off your high horse.

I wonder if the 6x9s are the main reason? I've had the urge for a year now to try some 10" or 12" midbass drivers. The more systems I listen to, the more I like the sound from the larger drivers instead of the little 6.5" trying to play 60hz with authority.

I'm not real knowledgeable about car audio but I would like to do a 10", 4", and a soft dome tweeter. Maybe tune the subs a little lower and cross them over at 40hz so they only play true sub bass and let the 10s pick up from there. It might be crazy and sound like ass but I may very well try it.

They're not. I'd gladly trade the 5.1 that I've used maybe five times in exchange for just a loud ass, clean, like 500 watt setup, with a sub that actually works.

It's not a bad stereo; some songs can sound quite good, but I was really expecting to be blown away by it based on what I've read about it, and I wasn't ....at all. I'd like to hear the Bose setup on the RL; I bet it sounds much better.

Other car is a '05 Yukon with Bose, and it's a million trillion times better.....like not even close...
