Need Advice..got quote from Tweeter for Sub

Just bought the TL-S a month ago and today I went to Tweeter Stereo http://www.tweeter.com to get a quote on replacing the stock sub. The installer came out and seemed really into the stereos and subs..he seemed like he really knew what he was talking about. Tweeter is known to have better quality stuff. He recommended the JL 10inch W3 V3 sub http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?page_id=200 in a CUSTOM made stealth box mounted flush in the corner with matching carpet with a 200W JL amp. (he will disable the stock) The tweeter price with EVERYTHING installed (including a bass intensity button up front) with custom box was 920.00.

What is the AZ opinion in here about the W3 V3 sub...what kind of difference in sound will I hear from ONE enclosed 10"JL W3 -vs-the stock open air Sub.??

What is the opinion of an ENCLOSED box vs a PORTED one?

Also..what kind of product or quality is JL and in particular this model. I am a do-it-yourselfer but I don't think I want to construct my own box and wire as well as the experts do?

Look forward to hearing from you.

I do not kow much about sound systems, but just as some advice, make sure to disconnect the mics for the active noise cancellation feature otherwise the sub will makea booming noise with the audio off and drive the installer insane.

Not a bad price for everything including the stealth box installed. JL is good stuff, a little overpriced but still good stuff. The amp may be under powered for the sub since the sub is rated to handle up to 600watts, Optimium is 300 watts. The JL 250/1 (250w) would be a good choice or the alpine MRP- M650(400w).

Ported if you want bump and boom.
Sealed if you want tight and punchy bass. I personally like seal enclosures.

Yes, you will notice the difference. It's like night and day.

Thanks for the advice...I'm going back and forth on ported or sealed. I'm afraid I'm gonna shell out a GRAND for a sealed enclosure and not feel the difference in bass...yes I want tight sound and good range but I want thump too...is that still gonna be there with enclosed?

I got a JL 12W6V2 installed being pushed with a JL500/1. I did the install myself and got a custom fiberglass box made by Uncald on this site here. Def get a sealed box. Reason being, it will take more power to push a sub in a ported box.

the JLw3 can easily be pushed by a 250/1. What i would recommend is getting the old sub taken out in the process.

a grand for a system is nothing nowadays. If you could go with a W6. It will definitely make you happy.

i use to work at tweeter as an installer and jl is some good stuff thats all i reccomend for subs.the w3 is a very good sub for the money i actually have 2 jl10w6's and i love them .i would go with the sealed encloser it will def sould a light tighter and puncher and will take up less space.both of my subs are in sealed and sounds great hear are pics of mine all done.https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136840and as for the price that is really reasonable for what your getting.

Do you really want that much boom? I see how the kids want that (I did too), but at 35, I figure you may have outgrown the need for trunk rattling, ear deafening, and heart stopping bass that completely overpowers the rest of the radio. It's just silly to me now... I'd rather spend my money on go fast/stop fast parts.

FYI, I upgraded the bass in my TL for $200. $75 for a JL 8W3V2 which fits right in the stock hole, and a JLe1200 150W rms amp in the tire well. PLENTY of bass, NO LOSS of trunk space or hearing.

Just a consideration... and 20% of your projected cost.
