Hopefully this is for the 3.X navi version ('04-'06). I've read that people have had success with the 4.X version.

Here is the link to the older thread: Burn DVD Nav disc?

Back to your original question, most likely it will not work. Not only does the navi software change with newer models, the hardware also changes.

We can't load a '07+ TL navi disk (4.X version) into a '04-'06 TL (3.x version) because of the different hardware, even though they are 3G.

I made a copy of my navi disc last week cuz there's an insane scratch on my DVD, thus producing errors while navigating, and it works perfectly fine.

I have an 07 TL Type S with a White ver 4.55 navi disc.

I recieved my new DVD (ver 4.56a) yesterday and tried to burn a back-up. I was able to create an image using Sonic DVD Copy, but I don't have any double layer DVDs to try burning one.

Before you consider buying the latest version, nothing changed that I can see other than they added the DST Patch so you can choose between the new Mar-Nov DST Schedule and the old Arp-Oct DST Schedule. Not worth the $185 in my book, unless you're service dept won't replace your scratched one under warranty!

I may pick up some DL DVDs this weekend and give it a try.

My service department said that I would have to purchase one to replace it. It was not a warranty issue. I just figured that I would try to obtain one from the board first. I will be more than happy to pay you for the Disc and shipping. PM me if you could help me out.

Did the Navi DVD work for you? Just curious if it loaded okay. I made a back-up of my White Ver 4.56a DVD and it's running now with no problems, but I loaded the original DVD first so I don't know if there is an issure with the initial load or not. Please let me know how it worked for you...

The NAVI disk is working great now!

The new disk I received to replace my damaged one is working great now. Thanks for helping me out. At least we know that the disk is working. My wife took off with the car last night so I couldn't check the DST update. I am checking to see if the DST update is also showing up. I will keep you guys posted!

So why are so many people burning these 07' dvd's with ease. Is it the difference between the 07's and 04-06 that make it easy for the 07's?

I have no idea, I've not tried to burn the 04-06 DVD, just the 07. Nothing special though, just the Sonic Software that came on the computer and a DL DVD! The image does take up a lot of disk space, it was real close to a full 8GB! Nothing that you could e-mail, that's for sure!

How could I be so selfish?

Paul,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I am bowing down at this moment. Check your email when you have a chance.

First, Let me say that the disc is working great and I am having no problems. Unfortunately, due to serious billing issues, I do not have XM, NAV Traffic or any other features from XM. Once I have a Zero balance again then I will turn the service back on. That is definately aonther thread! I can then test the full features of the disc at that time.
Second, on the clock adjustment I now have DST options included. The DST gives me 2 options now. APR-OCT and MAR-NOV. These options definately where not there before so the disc includes the DST updates. I dont think there are any other features except the color changes for the traffic features in NAV traffic from XM.

I hope others will find this information useful.

No worries! I just hadn't heard from you and wondered if all the functions were working. Glad to hear everything is as it should be, and thank you very much for the e-mail, you are more than generous!

What's up with these DVDs getting scratched? Is this happening while they are in the DVD Unit in the trunk? I pulled mine out when I upgraded to the new version, other than then, it's been safely loaded in the DVD Unit... Or so I thought! Please enlighten us!

I was surprised to find scatches on the Navi DVD in my wifes 05 MDX. Never had any problems. Now my 4 yr old daughter and her DORA DVDs are another story, I have to buff them with toothpaste to get them to work

The 07 uses the White DVD I think the 04-06 use the Orange DVD. From what I've gathered through conversations here, the two are not compatible, nor are they interchangeable. I read somewhere the hardware on the 07 was updated and uses different software. Note sure how accurate that is, but I do know they use different colored DVDs!

There is a whole MEGA-thread on this. 1st post tells you where the 07 instructions are. If things like "C Prompt" and "Commnad Line" and "Start --> Run" are gibberish to you: STOP.

But, for your conveincene here you go:

This is for the v4.55A navigation disk. I assume you know some basics about using the command prompt. I can try to write a step by step version with pictures if someone really needs it.

What you will need:

V4.55A navi DVD

1 blank CD

Bysin (program from first post)

8to16 (program taken from http://www.guicide.com/cars/2006civic/nav/hacks/)

A 480x234 picture saved in 256 bmp

Go into your C: and create two folders: ToBurn and NaviHack. Search through your Navi DVD for the following files(make sure you are copying the one off of the DVD):

07Touch.bin

07Touch2.bin

A0000_00.MNG

DCA0.reg

PRG_INFO.MNG

UPDATE_APL

Copy it into the ToBurn folder. Next also copy the “07Touch2.bin” file into the NaviHack folder. From the Bysin program, copy "Bysin.exe" and "CECompressv4.dll" file both under "release" into the NaviHack folder. Then go to the 8to16 program and copy the “8to16.exe" file into the NaviHack folder too.

Take the picture you want to use, rename it as “replace” (should already be in bmp format) and copy it into the NaviHack folder. Go ahead and open your command prompt (Start -> run ->type “cmd”) and get into the NaviHack folder (typing “cd\NaviHack” should work). Now type in these lines one by one. It should take maybe 1 minute between each command. Be patient.

-> 8to16 replace.bmp Opening1.bmp

-> bysin 07Touch2.bin update Opening1.bmp Opening1.bmp

Now to check if the image in the bin file is replaced, type the following:

-> bysin 07Touch2.bin extract Opening1.bmp

A folder named 07Touch2 inside the NaviHack folder should appear. Drag the picture inside (should be named Opening1.bmp) the 07Touch2 folder into IE and it should be the picture you want to use. If that’s right, copy the 07Touch2.bin file from NaviHack into the ToBurn folder to replace the old 07Touch2.bin file.

Now burn all the files (6 files total) onto a CD. Just a regular CD will work. Now go ahead and follow the steps to load it onto your navi from the first post. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Working with the Image

I noticed most images in this thread have not followed this routine, thats why the ACURA logo, the actors faces and everything else will look distorted in the ACURA, mainly I guess because the pixels in the ACURA navi are not perfect squares. People start to look taller in the car than on the screen! The trick is to work on a 480x270 file and resize to 480x234 to put it in the BIN.

Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere! Thanks and good luck!

(By the way, I changed my screen yesterday and now the voice command does not work while I am on the BT phone talking.)

One more thing, do all your work, specially the resizing in the RGB format. Once your image is 100% ready, resized to 480x234, THEN index it to limited colors.

DONT index then resize.
Resize then index.

If you need to modify the image, open the 480x270 RGB files, and continue working. When done, resize, index and upload in the BIN.

ok...so it all goes well untill i do the 8 to 16 part. I keep coming up with the message

?surprise: input file'Opening1.bmp' is not exactly 113,398 bytes.
palette starts at 00000036
data starts at 00000436
?error 0 reading data from screen.bmp read 112318 bytes

and it makes an opening1.bmp in my folder, but is 0 bytes and a white screen...I kjeep doing this over and over and i alwayse get here and get stalled...im sure im doing everything exactly like ive read unless there is something wrong with my pic???

I took my original pic, edited it, resized it to 480 x 234, changed it from rgb to index and saved it as a bmp...whats the deal???? HELP!
