nav fried... need help

I had groceries in my trunk and they leaked OJ all over my Nav DVD player and thunk it shorted out! Acura is telling me I need a new Nav system for $3-$4 grand..
Has this happened to anyone and do I need a whole new system or can i just buy a new or used(where?) Nav DVD player?
How much would you pay for that used?

thank you

check ebay, you can usually find units on there for around 500 dollars and swap them out youself. Be sure that if you have an 04-06, that you get the 3.xx drive (orange Disk), 2007-2008 the 4.xx drives (white disk)

OR
you can call up alpine, ask them if they can fix the drive for 150 dollars, then send it to them to have it fixed.

I can't imagine that getting juice in the dvd player would require replacing the whole system. That sounds like a scam to me. I just had to have my nav screen replaced yesterday....it was $3.5K for the screen which includes all the climate controls (I bought the extended warranty, thank god). They should be able to just unplug the DVD player and replace it with a new one unless somehow the whole wiring harness for the nav system shorted...but I doubt that.

the dvd drive is the brain for the system and costs around 3.5K plus 500 dollars or so labor to install...

You can have Alpine repair it for a relatively reasonable price. Look here:

you would need the TL one, you can't use the other ones since the proper .bin files won't load off the dvds...

it takes around 15 minutes to install, just take out the anchor hooks for the cargo net, peel the trunk liner back, and then unscrew the 4 screws and take out the harnesses.

HOWEVER

the book calls to take out the rear seats so the whole trunk liner can be taken out which means more time and more $$$ for the dealer.
