Also, I suggest you get the griffin cigertte charger - which allows you to use any house iPhone charger in your car. This way you can snake the cord from the mount, through the emergency brake area into your center console so you can plug it into the griffin charger. The setup is as close to oem as you cab get it!!
Yup.. that's why I did the Griffin Charger. I did the one with dual USB's so that this way I can charge a friends ipod/itouch/iphone or whatever while I still charge mine and not interupt playing tunes. Anyone in NY who wants this setup done.. I can do it.. it will take a good portion of the day to make it happen depending on if everything needs to be done. I just did one recently for another member.

Elegant! Awesome setup and I think Id like to do the same setup! Is there anyyyyy way you could post the exact links for each piece (including the camera) you used so we could just go there and buy the same exact same stuff ? ..... I kinda wanna install a separate dvd player as well .... at the end of the day I want movies on my Navi, Backup Camera, and the Ipod (with Ipod controls directly from the Ipod like urs is).

just an fyi for anyone about to do this setup. The apple cable used (if it's still the same setup that inspired me to do mine) is available at RadioShack for the same price as for apple's website.
I'm just mentioning it, because with that you can buy most everything at the store and get to work, instead of waiting on stuff to ship.

so far great setup
im trying to do the same thing but take it a bit further as in integrating a pc with a iphone as well. since my nav is out of date, i was hoping i can link the pc to the iphone to use the 3g service...i still have to think about wat i want to do first.

basically how did you know where to open the carpet flooring for ur setup? cuz i really do not want to ruin my car by poking holes at places where i do not need too.

anyone can tell me how to open my nav/radio panel as well?

Took me awhile to find it, but I remember going through it at like 2am this morning.

Below is a link to bzyrice's thread that shows how to take off all the interior panels when he done his navigation conversion. I right clicked all the images and saved them because once "most" of the threads starts getting old, the images are no longer available. Hope this helps....

Great job. I'd assume you would do the same except the nav converter if you don't have nav?

i just got an iphone...not jailbroken (but hot damn i will jailbreak it if the plus's outweigh the risks...

I am really wanting to purchase a navigation app on my iphone and integrate it to my nav screen in car...you think this is possible?

Elegant, first, great thread, great integration.

You've inspired me to follow in your foot steps with a nice audio/video integration of my own.

I looked through the thread and saw that you ordered the pro clip, and had some custom work done. I would like to do the same thing, maybe with the ACURA, maybe with a Type-S or something like that, who knows. Can I get a little more information on where you had the custom work done? Also, the base clips I'm seeing on the website don't look like yours to me...is there a special one you ordered?

Thanks for all of the help.

p.s. I'll be going with Dom's unit and iSimple, so I can have the best of both worlds: full iPod integration and control through the iSimple cable, and then when my wife wants to watch movies on road trips, I'll just switch the connector to the Apple AV Composites.

Ok, I found this section which I couldn't find before for some strange reason. Is this what I would need?
http://www.proclipusa.com/default.as...59&d_cat=17878

I would still like to know where you got the custom "ACURA" done.

Thanks,

Sorry, I can't see where to edit my previous post. This should be added to that link:
Apple iPod Touch 3rd Gen. - Padded Holder with Tilt Swivel and Pass-Through Connector for Cable Attachment

Will this allow me to switch the cable out when I want to switch between audio and video?

The blue wire on both doms unit and navtool is 12v for a backup camera. For our Type-s w/ the factory backup cam you will NOT use this blue wire. I just wrapped mine with electrical tape. The switch will come with your navtool.

Waltah, instead of using the pie x3 that is used for additional Aux Audio inputs, you could use the one in our center armrest for audio. The way I get audio for my dvd player is through the aux input, I'm thinking that it would be similar with the ipod/iphone setup. You would just buy a cable to go from 3.5mm male to RCA audio female.

You will still have your XM radio for sure using the Aux In in the center arm rest. Sometimes I will play music videos and jam out to the 80's or 90's station on my XM just to be different....lol.

I really wanted the additional inputs, but not at the expense of losing xm. Why did elegant mention he didn't lose functionality?

I'm not sure about this. I've read about the pie unit but never used one.

You are right, the audio quality isn't as good but I highly doubt someone riding with you could tell the difference.

Alright, the XM functionality that is lost with the PIE X3 in our 07-08 TL with nav is the nav traffic, not the audio. So if you say no thanks to nav traffic, go ahead with the PIE X3.
As far as audio quality, I'm not noticing it being worse than my mp3 CD quality.
Engine / alternator whine, I hear it only when i'm on the AUX input, and I don't have an iPod / iPhone connected. Once I connect the device, i guess it completes a grounding loop and all is good.
Other than the grounding issue with alternator whine, i'm not sure why you'd have worse sound through the factory AUX than going the PIE X3 route.

i hope that helps

No problem, since you're still opting to go the PIE X3 route (assuming you read my thoughts on the quality difference between the 2 options you have), there is a potentially easy way to install the PIE unit. From the driver side, if you pull the carpet down by the footwell near the accelerator pedal, you'll open up access to the back of the head unit. You'll need a flat head screwdriver to push down on the clip for the xm wiring harness on the back of the HeadUnit. If you have small hands you might be able to go that route. If not, well, you need to pull a lot of stuff out, the worst part will be your aluminum trim of the center console. I was sure i was going to break the plastic shroud next to my navi screen. It was flexing like crazy and the aluminum piece wouldn't come out.

I had to remove those to run the video cable from the center arm-rest where my iPhone is, all the way to the trunk to use DOM's unit for the video interface.

Hey so just to clarify, If you have the aux cable input jack olready in the center console you do not need the pie or isimple. Just got navtool for video and curious if i still need isimple or pie x3. (2007 tl Type s with nav)

what about iPhone 4? :D

@Elegant TYPE S

Okay, so I never got to have the mod done... instead got upgrade for ma iPhone done instead, like 6 mos ago ...LMAO

I can seriously use video feature on my factory nav because sitting in CALI traffic is boring otherwise

Ya, I still got stupid DICE thing and ya it still helps me play all my songs and only shows song info when it's playing. Still major drawback is able to browse which is why I still admire your setup where u able to retain iPod TOUCH screen functionality for iPhone.

BTW, I do have auxiliary port on DICE - I clearly remember that

So, now my annoying questions again is ...your classic setup guide should still work for iPhone 4 & 08 TL, right?

What / How would you perform similar integration for iPhone 3GS and 2008 Acura TL (w/Nav and freakin DICE installed, which I admit is great but I'm like you - I'd rather utilize awesome iPhone's iPod touch screen instead).

Obviously, I'd like the video feature and I'd like the audio to still be digital (and not analog) along with the ProClip.

I know its lot to ask but if you could list exact parts/products, so I can hunt them down precisely... so, those handy BestBuy guys can and get it installed Thanks in advance!

OK you win. Your system seems as easy as any.

1. At this time is there any way to use the digital signal out of the iphone with or without XM with your setup? I guess we are limited to the apple video wire?

2. Is there any way to get the iphone screen on the nav screen (as I have seen elsewhere) for up-to-date nav and traffic and/or trapster?

I believe now is the time to just make the screen an extension of the iphone and trash the xm/nav it has become the lower hemisphere of my brain with microchips.
