My FRIED RF T600-4 Amp.

So like a month back, I was going to my sisters house with family for my niece bday. I remember turning off the radio because we were wrapping the gifts in the car. So im parked radio off. 3 hours later, I remote start my car and 10 minutes later, open the door and smelled burnt electrical components.... I turn on the radio and hear no voice but i do hear my subs.. i go to the trunk and damn. it stunk so bad!!!! No LEDS were on from the amp. I turn the car off and remove power from the amp. Get home, remove the amp and opened her up. Found a few fried transistors.

Im looking to repair it and ima call RF on monday for a quote. I can get this amp for 300 refurb'ed with warranty or 350 new so im not looking to spend alot to repair it. Has anyone ever repaired an amp with RF? or know an estimate as to how much it'll cost to repair?

Call RF and see what they'll charge you. Some places will just charge a flat rate like $120 to fix it. I paid that a couple of years ago when I sent an old xtant amp to Mitek to be repaired.

Those are FETs. If you can solder, then you can replace them. Do them all, not just the bad ones.

Those mostly go out when you put too much power through them. Did you notice where the volume was when you got into the silent car? I burned up an amp once (FETs too) because I hit the volume knob getting out and it slammed for 5-10 minutes before I got into the car.

Yup FETs ( TRANSISTORS)... The radio was off. For the rebuild, im going to add a timed/pop relay to the remote wire so that the amps aren't always on especially when starting.

Well i've been forgetting to call RF for their price but i did email someone on the RF forums that people have repaired their amps with (freemans Stereo Video out of NC) and they quoted me 135 shipped for the repair. By the pics, he stated it was the Power supply so far but he'd repair everything and warranty of 90 days. i'll probably call RF on thrusday and get their price and warranty period.

Called Rockford Fosgate. They'll charge $190 to fix to include return shipping and 90 day Warranty. Only $55 more than the other spot.. I will probably go thru RF to get it fixed but will do it around March since my car will be parked the whole winter and i don't want to waste that 90 day Warranty since its not going to be used.. Took like 3 minutes to get their quote.

Lol. I don't think price would go up.. it would then be an older product. But your luck, you'd get it fixed and on day 92 would fry again lol

Quick update.

RF Customer service is Great. Called them up to get my RA number and payment stuff. Shipping amp today to get repaired. Same price of $190+ shipping to them. Luckily it fits in a USPS Priority flat rate so add 12 bucks to that. I've been running a different amp in the meanwhile and man i miss this amp! I cant go over volume 17 without the amp turning off. Cant wait to get it back and installed.

Makes me scared to think what my Audison will cost to get repaired. Ugh.

Good to hear it's working out for ya though! There's a few companies that were recommend to me over at DIYMA that might be cheaper for you &/or have a quicker turn around time. EnvisionElec (speak with Aaron) & Db-r..though DB-r's customer service is gawd awful

wut

Sounds like your settings are way off.

Amps don't just "turn off"

Something you did is what probably caused that RF amp to go poof..

Well I called a different place and got a quote for 135($55 dollar difference) and that was an average price for repair of mosfets and power supply (usual for this amp). I thought $55 to send it back to th manufacturer at a flat rate fix price jut in case there was something more would be worth it. All I did was remote start the car with the radio off...
