My aftermarket navi solution...

Someone asked for a picture a few posts back. This is a pic of my tomtom go in action at night. I have it sitting in the left hand corner of the dash. The mount it comes with is perfect for our cars, rock solid and integrates perfectly. It has a rechargeable battery so there are no wires. The sound from the device is CD quality and you have about 6 different voices(about 30 total--different languages) to choose from. I highly recommend it to anyone who missed out on getting navi. It is the first gps I found where I dont really miss the in dash navi. Nice thing about this is that you dont have to look down for a second..it is right there with your view of the road. Not obtrusive at all...As you can see it looks cool at night. Cost about 575 online...

Would you link us to your previous thread?? Thanks.

Edit: now, the pic size is better...

heres a better shot...

Heres a better shot of how its mounted. The navi sits perfectly over the left vent...doesnt deter speaker or vent. For any of you who didnt shell out the extra 3000 for the acura nav or don't want to rip up their dash installing an avic this is a very good solution for about 600.00. The flash makes the screen look bad but its actually very clear and a good size.

Hey, that's cool. Looks very useful without being intrusive. Have you posted the specs for this thing on another thread?

maybe

Ive made reference to it before..but now that I actually own it I cant say enough good things about it. My big thing with an aftermarket navi was that it be small and have no wires and look good. This fit the bill better than I could have imagined. Theres a flash demo of it on their site...

plus heres some reviews.
http://reviews.cnet.com/TomTom_GO/45...-30960607.html

I just like it because it fits perfectly and it looks like part of the car--it is mounted to the windshield but the mount is only like 5 inches long and its rock solid. Plus you cant even really see that its mounted on windshield from the drivers perspective.
The 3d map view is much better than the 2d stick view of the acura navi--u have to see it to appreciate it.
I initially thought the screen would be too small but it zooms in and out so well that its just the perfect size. Ive tried quite a few other aftermarket navs(magellan, garmin, pocketpc) and this ones the best by far for my needs.

The cheapest I could find was $699 on ebay. I'm thinking of getting one too. Where did you get it from?

Any pros and cons of this device?

Thanks!

Silver

This looks great, but I have one concern about the mounting location - what happens when the side airbag fires? Will it launch the TomTom at your head?

I'm not being critical - I'm seriously considering buying one too. Thought my mounting problems were solved until I got in the car yesterday and wondered about that airbag.

I've been wondering how it would look mounted on the right, perhaps near the clock or just above. That's the only thing keeping me from puchasing - don't want to buy something that will be expensive and look bad, too.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Magicmarker -

I'm looking at getting this as well. In the manual - p. 30 - the illustration shows the side curtain deploying well ahead of where Silver's TomTom is sitting. No guarantees, but it looks like an even better spot to put it because of where the side curtain deploys.

Nice pics Silver - I think this is the way I'll go -- And I'll be able to transfer into the wife's Oddysey for our travels this summer!

tlysis,

That price rifleman-cl posted looks good. I just paid $625 delivered (last Saturday), minus the $50 rebate =$575. I mounted mine where SilverJ did. I received it Monday and so far I’m really impressed, it seems like a great little system.
Go for it.

SilverJ,

Thanks for your post 4 weeks ago. I hadn’t heard of it before that. After I read your post I researched it and made up my mind to go for it.
