iPod video + DICE + AV Electronics Basic
Here is my setup:
5th Gen iPod Video
DICE iPod adapter with cradle dock
AV Electronics Basic video input interface
I would like to be able to control my iPod from the car, view the text, play music videos, and charge.
This does not seem possiable. The closest I can get is to disable the test display and control everything from the iPod (SUCK!).
The problem is that in order to get the text (input via XM mode - unhooked in trunk, not CD-C mode) you have to lock the iPod when you plug it in. Well, I was thinking no biggie, I will just make a "music video" playlist and then I can navigate to the music video's that way...well it seems that the iPos is smarter than I am and will actually play just the music from a music video if you do this...hence I have to disable text mode in order to get to the video's section in my iPod.
It also does not work to play the video and then connect the iPod because it pauses it....then you can't control the iPod because it's locked and you can only play music and have no way to play video's anymore....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I know a few people have gotten this to work - how does it work for you??
Thanks!

Have you tried a search or checked out 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ.
Most have done it with a Dom's Unit, PIE X3 or USA Spec combo though. I think the DICE unit (maybe in combo with the 5th Gen iPod) is causing the issues here. I haven't been up to date with this unit (pre-Silver Line), but I remember certain iPods will get locked out when connected to it, while others do not. You might have to search in that large DICE thread to find it.

I've read the FAQ's like 10,000 times...that's how I'm where I am now. I was under the impression I could do text, control from the car, and from the iPod all at the same time:

I was wondering, since I couldn't find this answer and you are the most qualified to answer.
With the dice, are you able to use your factory controls, and the ipod controls at the same time without having to switch over a switch?
Yes. Full control from both all the time. We have no other mode.

Well, I got it working...Not exactly the way I planned, but it's working...I just can't change songs using the car if I'm doing videos. Not really that big of a deal because I'm not driving while watching videos, so I can change using the iPod.
I'm done - you can close this.

What was the solution?? LOL. I have the DICE which I love the integrated controls from steering wheel but hate I can't do video. Has anybody figured out how to hack a composite av cable to hookup to dice for audio and do video through doms device?

Nope, I actually used a cable from http://www.davidnavone.com/ and used the aux input on the dice unit to take the audio from the cable and I use the input from the video into the AV Electronics Basic video input interface. Then I mounted the iPod and control it from the device. All in all, it works great, charges and plays videos. I think Dice has a new unit that JUST came out, talk to Jay over there...They may have something now that will do everything. Just be REAL specific and check firmware versions and everything before you buy.
