My dvd player in the trunk is out...instead of opting to send the unit to alpine I decided on integrating my iphone...I need help figuring out what all I will have to buy...can anyone give me a shopping list? If you do me this favor I can return the favor by possibly ordering more parts at cost! My bro works at an audio store and I am sure I can coax him into buying more than one. I only need the hardware needed for hookup to the phone...I do not need any clips since we will be doing a custom install for the phone.

Goal: To use navigation from iphone on screen. Would also like to watch youtube and other applications. If i get music and text thats a plus but not a necessity.

I currently have a 3g 16gb with ISO4 sw. This is going in a 2005 6spd TL.

Ok....
call me stupid or whatever..but all the links are just continuing to add to my confusion...information overload...

I literally just want a list of which items I should buy for my general application.

To reiterate:
I will be using my iphone for navigation, calls, and whatever else I can make video out to my screen. I would prefer to still be able to use my hands free for incoming calls. I want to install a backup camera. I will not be using the dvd player in the trunk (its faulty, needs repair). I would like to keep my XM operational so I have the opportunity later to purchase it at a later date. I currently have a 3g 16gb with ISO4 sw. This is going in a 2005 6spd TL. Thats it.

As far as I know, you can't port your iPhone's video display to your in-dash Nav display; at least I haven't seen anyone do it yet.

Presumably you've already paired your phone via HFL. This part should be done, or at least very easy.

Again, I don't know that anyone's been able to accomplish this. The possible solution is the Dom's video unit I referenced previously. But, I believe that's only been used with DVD Players, computers, etc.

No problem. Just pair it via Blutooth to HFL. Nothing you do will change that.

Again, no problem. If you want to integrate your iPod into your system to PLAY MUSIC, you need one of these:

Both of these will "fool" your head unit into thinking you've attached another CD Changer. You'll have steering wheel control to skip tracks, etc. and the sound system will mute when you get phone calls.

As of yet, I've seen no one integrate an iPod as BOTH a music player and a video player simultaneously. Sorry.

Here is what I want to do...basically everything this guy has done...but I dont know what all he bought to install this setup...what parts did he use? He is still using his factory navigation which is what I lack at this time...I dont want to fix the dvd nav player in the trunk for fears it will just go bad again anyway...

I will jailbreak my iphone and download an app that allows EVERY app on my phone to video out...if I am able to do this I will be able to buy my own iphone navigation app and have it displayed on my screen.

Interesting. I've not seen someone pull that off before. Is he still able to use it as an iPod with the steering wheel controls and that or is it like a replacement for a car-puter? Have you contacted the person who posted the video? Perhaps they could be helpful as well.

I'm looking to do this as well , but I already have a DICE unit that I want to keep for music. I just want to add the video interface using Dom's unit like Elegant Type S did, but keep my DICE unit. I'm not sure this is even possible though
