Does it come with its own remote?

One thing I dont like that you have to pay $30 a year.

Getting it installed

I am getting the Viper Smart Start with Security (VSS5000) installed in a couple of days. The place quoted me $499 (for the system and install) + $89 for the imobilizer override. Once installed, i have to pay $100 for a 3 year service plan.

Do you think its a good deal?

@ turbocivic94 -

The VSS3000 does not come with its own remote, but the VSS5000 does come with 1. You still have the functionality to add more remotes to either systems later on for $100 each i think.

from directed website:

SmartStart coverage is currently available in the US only. Although the app itself can be used on iPhones anywhere data connectivity is available, the SmartStart module that is installed in the vehicle has to be provisioned to work in the GSM/GPRS network for each region or country.

I had it installed in my car month and half ago. I do love the remote start. I'm using it on my Droid X.

I just installed my 5901 a few weeks ago and I thought about getting this too but it's like why should I pay to lock/unlock my doors and remote start the car. I think it's a waste right now, if they do implement more features such as a map to show where you vehicle is actually at then yeah I can see getting it cause it'll act like lojack in a sense.

hmm, thats a problem. I was really looking forward to getting this as it's really necessary here in Toronto. Although I don't see why it doesn't work since it runs off GSM and we got a GSM network in Toronto.

Quick ?. On the site it mentions that the SmartStart is able to work over WiFi network? Anyone tired this?

And lets just say that the TL is parked in an area where no data connection (3G, EDGE, etc) is available - like a garage of a hospital. And the phone is located in an area where coverage is present. Can you still start you car through 3G coverage? Or does both the phone and the car need to have adequate 3G data coverage.....?

Any help is appreciated!!!

For those who have a Compustar or NUStart system. There is a comparable unit available called DroneMobile.

I'm really interested in the viper system but I have a couple of questions:

I keep seeing 3G being thrown out, I still have Edge and not 3G coverage at my house, is that an issue?

A large portion of the reviews at Best Buy are not very good concerning the Viper. Have they resolved the system issues yet or are people still having these problems?

I want to keep my factory alarm and only want the remote start function, but I'd really like to have the unlock/lock abilities too. Can the Viper integrate into the factory system to do this or do you have to go to the viper security system for this?

Anyone have any answers for these? Thanks.
