increase volume?

Am wondering if anyone has been disappointed enough in the power of the audio system to want to change just the amp. Or, do you really need to change out the amp AND the speakers? I like to play my music a little loud and seems as though I have to turn it up to 25 or 30 to even hear it....when I have the driver's window down and the sunroof open. Not looking to wake up the neighborhood, but would like some more volume and not lose the crispness of the sound. Hope that makes sense.

Have you had it looked at? Mine is pretty loud even at 20. Maybe something is wrong?

Some of my DVD-A/DTS discs require me to really crank it up (~25, for example), but this is due to their increased dynamic range. If I'm listening to something less dynamic, 25 would deafen me.

I think you'd need to swap the amps and speakers to get more volume. If you only upgrade the amp, you may just end up distorting the speakers. You could try more efficient speakers first and then decide if more amp power is needed.

I know what you mean but bluenoise is right, my DVD/A discs require a lot more juice to get as loud as say, the XM radio or FM. I wouldn't dick around with the factory amps without exchanging the speakers, any audiophile can tell you that if you're going to bother with it, just replace everything as not to damage any factory installed components.

all stock stereo's suck. they are all just gimmicks nowadays. bose blows the worst. have a mdx i changed out. and my tl is ok but still sucks. wait for jlaudio to bring out the clean sweep. it is a really nice line out convertor but converts analog into digital signal. http://www.jlaudio.com/press/CleanSweep05.html.

I know everyone here says to get your amp checked out. But have you had your hearing checked. Is that ok?

5.1 sound distributes the power into 5 discrete channels, whereas stereo only have to split the power into 2 separate channels, thus you hear it louder.

a combination AMP system may work... 4 channels + 1 channel / 2x 2 channels + 1, etc
