Improving sound quality!

Hey guys i've always been and audio freak and the TL system is great but no that loud. I want something simple and practical. So i was thinking of the following:
Replace the 2 rear deck speakers and door speakers with the alpine type s but i really do not have the funds for an extra amp and 3sixty and all that. Second of all i want more bass. Not something absurd but clear. 1 12w3 with a directed amp and a sealed box. what are your thoughts on this? should I go for it or not?

if you don't have funds, go with some infinity speakers, they can run off the stock amp and make the music louder and give more clarity. As for the sub, you can drop a JL 8w3v2 into the factory location and just hook it up to an amp if you want bass, but not car shaking amount. If you want street shaking boom, i have no idea.

Get your funds up and do it right the first time... you're just gonna spend more in the long run...

Budget?

Do you want to swap out stock to something aftermarket (including amps / speakers)?

Or do you want to keep stock feel and change it out with aftermarkets (same Ohms etc)?

I have about $800
A better sub and a new amp for the sub is a must. I dont really want to get into it. I will be selling the car when i graduate in an year and a half so a big investment is quite unecessary.

I was in rental Camry for the past week for work. For a cheap 25000 car it has a nice sounding audio system. I had my IPOD plugged in to the AUX and it was CRISP. The treble was so strong i needed to actually lower it. Bass I had on +2 and it was great. When I got back in my 07 Acura i noticed the different. What crap they used!! I also noticed that Acura is probaly 3 times heavier then the Camary. When I got back into it, seemed like the parking brake was on, but its just much heavier feel to it. The Camary was quite nice for 15,000 car less then Acura.

I would just dynamat your doors, rear deck and then under the rear seat. That will give you the equivalent of doubling your amplifier power. After you do that then decide if you want to add a sub.

Basslink is infinity's powered subwoofer that is in an enclosure. It works in conjunction with your factory audio. It's basically a plug and play unit.

Gut the factory system. It's junk.

The factory sound system in my wifes 07 TL sucks. I have an 07 Denali and there is absolutely no comparison between the two. The Denali factory system kills her Acura. I am gutting her audio system because she can't stand to get into her car after being in my Denali.... Honda really fell down on this one....

The Acura HU is one of the best OEMs out there.

Hate to burst your bubble dude but someone has been winning SQ competitions with the stock TL HU and some zapco amps.

I'm using the stock HU and some alpine PDX amps and I think I blow away most of (if not all) the factory stuff out there.

But everybody has different tastes and ears. If you think you need to rip it apart then that's OK.

How are you bursting my bubble? Notice in your post neither you or this nameless "someone" is using the factory amp. Why? Because it sucks. The factory system in this car doesn't even sound as good as the one in my 1998 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee did. It needs work.

The WHOLE system doesn't suck, the amp is weak, but that is only a part of the system. As KP said, "someone" IS winning boatloads of SQ comps with the stock HU.

As far as putting $800 into it...that will get sucked up quick if you have someone else do the work...so, DYI my friend

From what I have read, BASSLINK sub, infinity kappa tweets work well and will definitely fit your budget. Don't know what mids people have used...

Good luck

Say the budget goes up. What would you do to do it right the first?

I think most people confuse "louder=better sounding" I can almost bet the system in the carmy wasn't the JBL (since it was a rental) and the highs were extremely "tinny", which is why you had the turn them down. Combine that with extremely efficient cheap speakers that put out muddy, uncontrolled bass and what do you have? A satisfied customer.

Acura tried something different, but most people don't really appreciate the system in the TL. Its an extremely well balanced system, with controlled bass, great mids and brilliant highs. For a stock system in a 33k car, you really can't complain. Add in the fact that it was the first car with DD5.1 surround and DVD-A as well.

The only thing I would change is the subwoofer, but I wouldn't go more than 10". There hasn't been a single note that the ELS system in the TL hasn't been able to push out. Can't say the same for most other factory audio systems.

Gee I can't tell if that's a TL behind all those trophies. Can you? Wait a minute I think it is. Do you think so too??

And BTW I am using the stock amp and the stock HU in my audio system. I think he is too in addition to the aftermarket amps. Go to the zapco website and check Team zapco. He is a member.

Anyway, back on topic. There are plenty of powered subs that will work well with the TL. Pretty easy to connect too. You can try this first and not spend a lot of cash. The next step would be the infinity speakers since they are drop-ins and will work with the factory amp.

How are you liking you set-up? Still happy with it? I'm in count down mode...two more weeks before a complete gutting and recontruction
