Huh? The closest Sears is 1798mi away?

Hello Everyone,

Can you guys with Nav do a little experiment for me? I've got a 2004 TL. When I search for the closest Sears, Costco or Sam's Club, it gives me locations anywhere from 1000-3000 miles away! And I live in So Cal.

At the dealer today, it did the same with another 2004, as well as a 2005 and a 2007.

Can any of you guys out there try the same and tell me what you get? I did a simple search by Place, then Name.

Thanks everyone,

David

is there anyway to set what region you are in or what region to search in?

Do a search by category, press shopping, tell it to order by distance, then you should be able to type in the keyword and it will show you the closest Sears in the shopping category near you.

The navi has certain idiosyncracies also. For example, Union Turnpike is a major thoroughfare in Queens County and Long Island in New York. But you cannot type in Union Turnpike fully. Instead, you just type "Union" and ask the navi to list all words associated with Union, and hopefully you will find the one that you really want.

Why should I have to go through this major hassle? Sometimes this will help, but not always, I tried this to.

Not that I can tell. Plus, it knows where I am, to the nearest couple of feet with the GPS!

Yes, it is a couple of extra clicks, but I found this the most accurate way to find something close to your current location. Once you do it a few times it becomes second nature.

I tell ya, it ain't never gonna be second nature to my wife!

Also, if I do it opposite to what you suggest, in other words, search by name, narrow by catagory, sort by distance, the one I get are hundreds if not thousands of miles away.

What's the deal?

yes, it always shows you where you are but some devices require you to select what region you are in (once in every region you search in) so it will have a smaller domain of place to search.

Understood, but it doesn't seem like there is anywhere to select a region or anything.

Unfortunately, it's just the way things are. This is a known quirk of the Acura navigation system, but I have experienced other factory navs that are worse. The technique that noah82 outlined is one of the workarounds.

Check out this similar thread for some additional tips/tricks/members in the same boat: NAVI system shows McDonalds at 2300 miles away!. Please continue the discussion there. Thanks.
