How to wire an aftermarket amp to factory system?

Hey y'all, I have an '05 TL and I'm thinking of putting an amp with 2 12"s in the trunk. Where do I run the amp wires to? I saw the thread earlier about the amp power wire going to a fuse but was wondering about the RCA cables? Sorry but I'm not up to par when it comes to electronics. Thanks.

You need to run a positive wire to the amp from the battery (17-20 feet or so) with a suitable fuse. The ground wire can be taken from a good spot in the trunk (3-6 feet will be fine). The RCA cables can be wired up in the trunk from the stock subwoofer wiring harness through a converter.

For the amp remote wire, you can either buy a converter that will signal the amp on, or do as you previously read and wire it up to an accessory fuse.

Buy an amp kit after you know how big of an amp you are going to get.

There are plenty of threads with pictures, but most of us have done this on a TL and can help with questions.

Thanks JDA, I haven't pulled the cover up in the trunk yet but will do it this Sunday since I'm off work. I know about the power, ground, and remote wires, but I'm not sure about getting the signal into the amp from the radio. Whats this connector called that you're talking about?

Take the stock sub out of the car. It takes an extra half of an hour, or so, but the vacated hole is a good place to get sound into the car. When you unplug the sub, there are 2 wires in a connector that you need to unhook. Those 2 wires can be cut and wired into the LOC. You can keep your stock headunit bass controls this way.

I know this update is a little old but finally got my box and amp installed this past weekend. The old box I had was so old that the foam rings around the speakers was rotten so I ended up ordering a box with 2 12"s in it and an amp from Amazon and installed them. I ended up having to cut the factory plug off the factory sub to wire the LOC in. The wire splices wouldn't get a good connection so I had to go straight into the wire with butt connectors. But they sound good, and a good price for Kicker brand on Amazon. Thanks for the help.

When you connect the remotre into an accessory fuse what size fuse is good to use? And i know this is a different subject, but I had my HID fogs and my Sub remotes both into one fuse with a 30A fuse and I blew some stuff up so I now know thats a bad idea. I plan to rewire them seperately today and into two different fuse positions. Any suggestions?

You did the main power wire or the remote wire into the acc position? The remote wire pulls practically nothing. You should never blow a fuse unless it has a short.
